I think things should be stricter on the newer users who are obviously trolling or constantly attack one person (one example is a new user who shall remain nameless who was clearly trolling; saying stuff like "LOL TEH WII HAS NO GAMEZ!", "Y WOULD ANYONE BUY A PS3 ITS GAMES ARE S**T COMPARED TO PC!!!" and others, of which I reported; but no action was taken. In addition, Rule 7; "Substance" in the Forum Rules (I believe) seems to have been forgotten. Too many threads nowadays have an OP with just a link, or a picture, and that's it. Moreover, I was warned back in January 2011 about posting 3 times in a thread, replying to 3 different people. As such, I attempt to reply to everyone in one post, or two, now. As do most of the 'older' members. But a lot of the newer members (you'll know them) have posted 8,9 or even 10 times in a row without expanding their opinion, simply to reply to every single post, with maybe one or two words. Again, I have reported this and cited the reason, but again, no action has been taken. I don't want to go into a thread where a post of mine has been commented on and have to sift through 300 posts on something that isn't even relevant to the topic!
However, things should be looser for members who have been here for longer, as they've proven that it's only a rarity (e.g I've gone 5,000 posts without moderator action, so I'd be upset if I get banned for the slightest joke).
If you ask me, the main issue with the system currently is that there's too few mods; however, the ones there currently are are doing a great job. It's just some things seem to fly completely under the radar, whilst the slightest 'joke' is banned immediately. I can only imagine this is because the mod team is stretched too thin, and as I've only really seen 3 mods on the site who are active frequently (Barozi, Kantor, Axumblade), that's probably a fair assumption.
So, overall, the system is fine, but it's not perfect. Remember all the rules; there's more to making the forum a better place than just 'avoiding trolling' or 'flamebait'. Spamming is a much bigger issue IMO, and should be moderated just as harshly. So I went for 'Harsher', though I know this will be difficult with the limited mod team currently operating on the site. With Machina gone, things have certainly got leaner IMO.

Which new user said that ? I wanna check if he got at least a warning for that. (in case you paraphrased him correctly)
Your 5000th post was at the beginning of April 2012 and you have 7 moderations (3 bans). *cough*
the site needs one important rule: no quality comparisons about different platform games that have not been released.
“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Yes, but my 2,000th post was a year ago, and the last ban and even a warning (I thought I only had 1 ban TBH, the other ones must've been real short), hence I said I've been a year, and 5,000 posts, without moderation action.
I could name the user here, but I don't want to break any rules for discussing moderator action, which again I've been told not to in the past. Let's just say that user was banned a few days ago for Flaming and calling people "Nintendo zombies" by Kantor (I did not realise this at the time I made my post), but the posts I was talking about was over a month ago. So that's good, but it should have been done a long time ago; something I'm sure many people would agree with.
I wouldn't mind quite as much, but he enters Nintendo threads, and numerous Sony threads, for the intent purpose to insult the fanbase.
Societies need rules to prevent us from hurting one another. Some people don't care so much about others. The mediator is like a cop, they should protect the citizens from the small number of selfish people who don't care about others.
Definitely stricter. It takes too long for obvious trouble makers to finally receive the permaban they deserve. Using one of the fallen troublemakers as an example... This guy did nothing but cause trouble. Yet it was over 17 months after he joined that he was finally given the boot.
That is far, far too long.

I remember that guy! Those were the days...
But yeah. Definitely took too long.

Is an opinion okay? Sure. Is it okay when you put it across like a dick? No. "Hey guys, I really dont like Sonys holiday lineup. Bunch of Nintendo ripoffs." "Hey guys, anyone else notice Sonys lineup? Looks like theyre trying to take a slice of Nintendos pie. Thats... Thats not for me." Content is key. One of those posts is unacceptable and one is okay, yet they're essentially saying the same thing. Posts like the former need a hard looking at. Is the poster well known for trying to rile people? Is it a one off? Another thing you guys need to look at is sigs. There needs to be one rule that you all abide by. Get that size limit and enforce it. Theres been too many moderations for sig length on people, when others get ignored. One rule, one size. Also. More moderators. |
This, this, this!!!
Also, please do something about the who-copied-who-game...

If they were, I'd probably be perma-banned by now.
