The wiiU gamepad has a lot of potential , anyone who's not seeing it, probably too dumb to bother with.

For one, it has buttons, which makes it better than any tablet. It's like a big vita in your hands.

Do you seriously think that SmartGlass would of been introduced if Nintendo didn't go second screen with the WiiU?

The reality is WIiU caused Microsoft and Sony to also add a second screen interface to their systems.

Yes, because Smart Glass has nothing to do with Wii U and everything to do with AirPlay. I don't even know why you'd even bring up the fact that Sony lets you use a Vita to play LBP2. Merely mentioning it expends more energy than Sony spent in the concept and implementation of such a lazy idea (although one that I'm sure all 10 Vita owners will enjoy).

Do you seriously think that the great innovator Nintendo would have given their console a tablet controller if the iPad weren't setting the world on fire?

The iPad did not release until 4/2010.

Nintendo was thinking about Wii U's tablet concept in 2008. Try again.

Apple was thinking about it in 2006. Why is this easily brushed away while Sony thinking about Move almost ten years ago is not valid! Sony the copiez, Nintendo the innovatez

Ok, I've heard a lot of bitching today. Sony copies what everyone is doing and improves it by a slight degree. They have been doing that for 15 years. There is absolutely no room for debate in that.

Now, Nintendo. Putting a tablet and APPLYING IT TO A VIDEOGAME console could be considered the innovation here; mainly because it has never been done before. But, before I confuse myself, lets define 'innovation'.

'Innovation differs from invention in that innovation refers to the use of better and , as a result, novel idea or method, whereas invention refers more directly to the creation of the idea or method itself.'

With that in mind, I guess Sony neither invented nor innovated. Maybe it is better to say Nintendo invented motion control with Wii, and invented tablet function in a console. Sony thought about Move and did not act on it for 10 years until Nintendo grew a pair of balls and risked it all first by having motion as the premier incentive for their console.

Based on that description Sony innovated with a lot of things. I dunno, being the first VIDEOGAME CONSOLE to have a DVD player/Blu-Ray player is one but I'm sure that doesn't count.

The fact that Sony massively expanded the industry probably doesn't count for leadership either.

Sony massively expanded before of course...but this a topic about 2012.  Someone alluded to Move not being a blatant copy, which is false.

Let's look at since the Wii came out, which is what I was discussing here.  What you describe is Sony picking up the pieces from a failed deal with Nintendo to get a disk-based system out there, and developing things.  They did get the lion's share.  But since the Wii came out, exactly what leadership and innovation is Sony showing?  They have followed the same strategy they did with the PS2, trying to ride a bigger disk format, and said standard for watching movies, to get people to buy their console.  They are third-place for this.  On the leadership angle, if you want to talk expanding the industry, they haven't done this, but Nintendo had.

Why hasn't Sony been sued? I like all the accusations Nintendo fans have been throwing around these past days saying Sony just blatantly copies. You said it yourself, they don't copy, they improve and expand upon. It only does everything.

Well, those things are neither leadership, nor innovation.  They are following trends and trying to improve upon them.  They are part of doing business, but they don't fit into the idea of leadership or innovation.

Innovation is not always useful or meaningful.

and I certainly didn't see leadership, but a manufacturer desperately trying to make up for the colossal ground it has lost to the competition.

And yes, they completely lack decisive sofware atm.

You should look at the hands-on on Kotaku which is delighted by the very scope mechanism mocked in this post. They really loved the whole thing! I think it's very exciting personally.

Come on do you see yourself playing battlefield or any serious FPS like that? It's absolutely useless unless you fight slow-paced zombies

It is all red ocean thinking here, outside of Nintendo.

Seriously? "Hey kids, do you want to play with an iPad while sitting on a Wii Fit board while your friends waggle around with Wiimotes and your Xbox loving older bro plays along with a controller that will make him feel right at home?" That doesn't sound like red ocean thinking to you? The Wii was about making gaming simpler and more accessible. The Wii U's philosophy is just "more cowbell".

1st versions of SmartGlass were shown last year. With Windows Phone integration with Xbox 360 and the Xbox Companion Device updates added to the dashboard last year.  With both Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows 8 Release Preview you have the basics for SmartGlass already today.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I would at least try it out. If you saw the Black Ops 2 campaign demonstration, the friggin guy was definitely moving slow enough with his sniper to make lifting a tablet to my face just as effective lol. In short bursts it can work for a game like COD (Preadator Missiles, basic score report, Airstrikes, etc....killstreaks mainly).

Besides, the tablet has buttons....and if THAT doesnt work comfortably enough, you could always just use

Smart glass seemed to me anotehr approach of their less mix Pc, tablet and phone they have with also win8. But since win8 has removed the start menu, and is more for portable thingy I don't give a s*** for, I'll stick to win7. I understand their strategy, but I'm just absolutely permeable to this since I prefer an stable architecure built around a stable, strong and fast PC.

In terms of hardware I definitely think Nintendo innovate, but as people have pointed out, innovation often goes wrong. I prefer innovation in software, I'm happy with a traditional ergonomic controller and a box.

Nintendo showed off the Wii U. That's not leadership and innovation, that's idiocy.

Let's go back to 2005-2006.  The quote was then:

Nintendo showed off the Wii. That's not leadership and innovation, that's idiocy.

Back then, the Wii was forecast to be a failure, mocked, called a gimmick and left for dead.  Now it is the Wii U that is getting that.

Yeah... no.

Things are very different. The Wii caused excitement and led to five hours long waiting lines to try out the system while the PS3 was shunned. The Wii U is met with a "meh" reaction all around.

So based off people's reaction on the show Wii U is gonna fail?
