Forums - PC - Diablo 3 - Mixed Feelings

I'm not that far into the game yet but I have a few observations so far:

Hate:

- Always online. It's a single player game.
- Color scheme. It's supposed to be darker and more "evil", not a lush wonder world.
- Real money auction system (when it goes live in my country). Kind of breaks the 4th wall all too much and makes the game feel not like a game anymore.
- Story. I dunno, the whole thing seems not as "dangerous" as before, with the big devils dead and only minor new ones threatening the world. The characters also feel too stereotyped, like how the Templar acts like Captain Holy Danger with every piece of dialogue he has.

Love:

- Sound. It gets in my face. I can feel the explosions and the death all around me.
- Crafting. Makes gear more varied and easier to acquire.
- Chaos. The gameplay really feels overwhelming because there are so many things going on at the same time. Destructible environments make for additional excitement. Hirelings having skills of their own is also a welcome change.
- CGI. As usual, Blizzard makes the absolute best cinematics and though they're not that long, they set the tone for the game.
- Orbs. Spamming potions never made sense to me before.

Neutral:

- Simplicity. Most people hate the lack of skill points and automatic attribute distribution. I don't like it too, but at the same time I'm finding it rather comfortable to just concentrate on the game and not spend so much time with a skill calculator.
- Auction house. While I hate the real money idea, the gold system also gives mixed feelings. On one hand, it's easier to get items you desperately need from different players. On the other, it undermines the vendors and the crafting system, making them sort of useless.

Interesting... keeps us updated as you go.

The real money auction house I think is better then the previous, which was real people farming items in china for Diablo 2.

Essentially blizzard gets the money, instead of having essentially sweatshops for a videogame. If I'm not mistaken, (I could be as I know little about diablo 3) all the items in the auction house you can earn in the game.

I'm not a huge fan of any of the diablo however (their well made games that I don't find interesting), But still, I'll eventually get this.

Always online is sooo fkn stupid, so now when i play singplayer i have 500 latency...WTF???

SINGLEPLAYER WITH LATENCY!!!!! DO YOUS REALIZE THE MAGNITUDE OF THIS MADNESS???

Damn it, I forgot about the always online. I support it if it's effective against piracy but right now I only have one internet in my house.

No seriously?

seriously?

ser...?

It doesn't reduce piracy at all. Assassin's Creed games used to use always online DRM, now from what I know they have stopped it because of the outcry from the PC community. There is nothing beneficial about always online.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

The following very strongly implies that you haven't gotten even slightly far in the game:

"with the big devils dead and only minor new ones threatening the world."

@ bolded - Really? I must be playing a different game because I haven't run into any lush worlds yet, and I'm in act 4.

And all the people complaining about always online, that part of the game has been known for months, so it's not like Blizzard sprung it on you after you bought the game. Most of the fun of D1 and D2 was found playing online anyway.

I've put in 30+ hrs and am loving it. And as far as latency - one time I got 330ms and just quit the game and started a new one - most all the time it stays 30-70ms and I get 80-90fps at highest settings and have NEVER had any slowdown. Awesome game - and I was a big D1 and D2 fan.

And the real money auction house - I don't blame Blizzard one bit. Why let the chinese gold farmers make all the money? The same people are going to buy their way up thru the levels whether it's through a AH or some gold farmer's website, so Blizzard may as well get a cut since there is no monthly fee to play.
