Forums - PC - Diablo 3 - Mixed Feelings

Wow, its good to see the various responses to diablo 3. Personally, being in Australia the lag isn't a big deal and non-existent on the Asian server, (you can change it on the account settings at the battle.net sign in page, my now nightmare character is on the us servers....) I personally like the game, although it s a step down from Diablo 2 in many ways, like the simplicity, there are some improvements.

I like the idea of the orbs, you kill, you get rewarded. It makes you more offensive in playing nature instead of just spamming full rejuvenation pots, running back to town, rinse and repeat. I don't like the idea of being online constantly, but if it stops piracy, then I'm all for it, it also allows you to know when your friends are on all the time instead of just chance meetings, having to set a time or contact one another. I know it isn't hard to send a text or facebook inbox but its still convenient non the less. Quests seem a lot more connected in diablo 3. Not you finished that quest, find the next person to talk to, then begin the next one after a brief story about the quest. The story, while, not as good, just flows better. The auction house is a good idea but i think it'll be better. It's still in its early stages and will develop over time.

I don't like the skill system that much at all. I don't mind the 1-4 button thing but the way you unlock them and the runes are just terrible. They had it right in diablo 2 in my opinion

my main gripe with D3 is that once the attack animation of an enemy begins you can't "dodge" the hit by running away, but only with your dodge/block stats

that part of the game feels really old and frustrating to be honest

I don' t think that's true. There's some monsters that have really long attack animations and there's plenty of time to move away.

I'm curious of what you are saying here Lafiel, because it would seam to me (but not tested) that if you teleport away from the enemy, it won't hit you even if the attack animation started when you do it no?

I think is more of an effect of the sever lag than the way the game is supposed to be. I could be wrong though.

I dont know it for all attacks, but most attacks you can avoin by running/teleporting away even when the animation already started. Its even essential to do it in higher difficulties.

e.g. there are mobs which starts the animation like putting the hammer in the air and then strikes down. If you dont avoid that attack you are dead. If you couldnt avoid that attack when the animation starts you would be always dead (funny on hardcore).

and it could also be serverlag ifs not working.

My gripe of the game can be summed up in two words:
Soul Lasher

well, I usually have around 30-50ms ping, so even if that effect is purely due to serverlag instead of being programmed like that it makes no real difference, as there is no option to play it offline anyway and the ping won't get much better either

haha, yea those guys are a real pain in the ass .. I managed to kill some elite groups on hell difficulty as WD, but if they have stuff like "invulnerable minions" or "frozen/jailer" I'm totally fu**ed

While I have enjoyed playing the game and especially when I have done so in co-op I have been severely frustrated at times. Like yesterday for instance I was experiencing severe lag despite the fact that I have a 100Megabit connection. I was then locked out from playing for 8 hours from single player while they did their server maintenance.

It's been up the last hour but I have to go sleep now since it's 5am Australian eastern time. On top of everything we have no local Australian servers and at the best of times I only get around 220-240ms ping on the US servers. Switching to Asian or European servers doesn't help as the lag is even worse and you can't carry over characters anyway.

If this keeps up it will be impossible to play this game on anything beyond nightmare difficulty.
Another gripe I have is that while I understand why Blizzard would want to make this game simpler for the masses I miss the days of Diablo 2 where you could have powerful custom builds. While gear has always been important at least the skills you chose to focus on defined your character. Now the game is entirely built on gear IMHO.

edit. Just tried to log on and I keep getting a message saying there is a new patch available and the game resets and brings up the launcher which indicates the game is up to date. The end result is that it is still impossible to log on. Keep up the great work Blizzard!!!

Nah, they're fine. But not one Boss group AND a group of Elite soul lashers at once... I died, many times. And then I quit and now I'm here telling you this.

I thought that the guys who spin and take only like 10% damage while spninning in act 2 were FAR worse, at least as a monk.
