Forums - Politics - Obama endorses gay marriage

President Obama just publicly expressed support for gay marriage in an ABC interview with Robin Roberts.

"I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married."

Holy shit, a USA presidenting outing "full support" for gay marriage?  O.o

Dey tuk rr jebs!!

I think a politician willing to change his stance in the middle of his or her tenure should be looked at as an advantageous trait.

All us young hypocrites keep yelling for politicians to be flexible and then we bash them any time they don't stand up to their principles. We're sending them mixed signals when we do that. I'm sure everyone hates rick santorum for many conservative reasons, but one statement he got booed for when he shouldn't have was when he said "politics is a team sport, sometimes you have to compromise your position."

Not trying to get off topic, but a lot of people are goddamn hypocrites.

Better late than never!

Great for him. He could have made his move on this back in '09 or '10. I don't know why he didn't. This really just sounds like shilling for votes...

Apparently dads aren't making their sons dig ditches or cracking their wrists enough, cracking down on it, and slugging them:

Not my words, nor what i would agree with on that, but apparently this fits into the fray also, on this issue.  Yes, there are some who believe sexual orientation is a lifestyle and something that represents a whole, person, rather than just the part of their being connected with those who they are sexually attracted to.

Maybe, but isn't it possible this position stands to lose him more than votes than gain? I'm not entirely sure of the current climate on gay marriage in regards to voters of each party, but it seems this position is preaching to the choir while it could lose him the borderline voters.

Either way, it's out there now and I hope he will make it happen.

This might be the smartest US President ever. This is the only Poltician I really care about, and he is american :/.

I'm guessing it will help with the younger generation. Which really helped Obama in the '08 eletion, and which now just show apathy
