Forums - Politics - Obama endorses gay marriage

Great for him. He could have made his move on this back in '09 or '10. I don't know why he didn't. This really just sounds like shilling for votes...

Because once gay marriage is passed, Gay people can vote on politics and not on civil rights.

Same reason why the women's pay act came up for vote right before the election... when the last time it was put up for a vote was the McCain Obama election.

Don't Ask, Don't tell only got voted away because a REPUBLICAN group was about to get it ruled unconstitutional.

Although they are for these things... most Democratic politicans don't actually want to see this things come to frution.

It's even more true with immigration reform and varius affirmitive action beliefs... since those groups actually agree more often with republicans but vote against them because they think republicans have it out for them.

Just two days after he said he WASN'T for gay marriage.

Yeah, but did you see the media having a field day with Jay Carney? Obama pretty much had no choice.

Oh i agree politically he had no choice.  I just think his previous postion was completely spineless.  Espiecally since more people are for gay marriage then agaisnt gay marriage.

Been like that for years... and I mean... is he really going to lose the black protestant vote to Romney?

What was his big worry?

Was he feeling pressured by Gary Johnson, perhaps?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

It wasn't about losing their votes to Romney so much as it was about depressing turnout among a group that he desperately needs. But with the media openly ragging on him and gay activists boycotting his campaign and PACs, he had to bite the bullet and revert to the pro-gay marriage position he already held back in the '90s before he conveniently changed his mind on it just in time to run for president.

Basically, he was allowed to skate with a preposterous position for three years now. If you are a craven shitbag like Obama, why change it if you don't have to?

That just cemented my vote. About damn time freedom in this nation means freedom for all.

feel?

I was going to vote for him anyways since Ron Paul isn't going to be on the ticket. However, I do hope the country does simply open up marriage to everyone. Its a stupid law.

If it means a repeal of the defence of marriage act (which he will be pressured into trying to do after this) then who gives a damn if he's doing it for political reasons.

In any case it almost certainly is his genuine view - it was his previous statements about an 'evolving position' that came across as disingenuous.

Umm... several people? A lot of people do not like Obama. (For obvious reasons.) He needs out.
