That just cemented my vote. About damn time freedom in this nation means freedom for all.

*GASP* You feel for it!

feel?

I was going to vote for him anyways since Ron Paul isn't going to be on the ticket. However, I do hope the country does simply open up marriage to everyone. Its a stupid law.

Ron Paul's ideology is on a ticket. The Libertarian ticket. Gary Johnson has held a pro-marriage position for awhile now. Go look into his views, as if you liked Dr. Paul, you will love Gary.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Good for you, Obama. Furthermore; good for America, being more in line with other parts of the West might not be a bad idea in these times.

Unless that other part of the west is Germany i'm not sure i'd agree...

No offense to your country but I don't think the same setup would work as well due to societal differences.

Funny how he's pro gay marriage, but supports states rights on this issue.... can you think of any other issue that he thinks the states should be allowed to disagree with him?

Medicinal marijuana laws. He supports the rights of states to permit it, and he supports even more the right of the DEA to totally ignore that shit and raid people's houses anyway.

His real beliefs will be tested if Colorado or Washington manages to legalize it this year for all 21 year olds. But judging from all the medicinal pharmacies in Colorado already the FEDS are hardly making a dent on that industry.

The fact that the Feds are smashing down the doors of medical marijuana users AT ALL is absolutely disgusting. The Government clearly doesn't recognise any limitations on its power.

I personally don't care about this issue much. I've always said that I would officiate a gay wedding.
having said that I have some questions.
1. Why is he saying this now? Pressure from his leftest voters? maybe. or maybe it's a great way to move away from real political issues like the economy.
2. Why do gay couple want to get married? Is it to get the same benefits? I mean, marriage has always been man/woman institution. so why get married? Gay couples are man/man or woman/woman. God bless you if you want that lifestyle but why try to take away the importance and unique man/woman relationship? To say that gay marriage is equal is to say that there are no difference between a man and a woman.

3. don't you think that this is not about giving rights to gays but taking away rights from marriage?
4. why do many think Pres. Obama is brave to do this? He is probably one of the smartest presidents we've had - this is for his benefit. He is being a great politician.

I personally despise so called Christians who attack gays because of this issue. They are the worst.
I do believe that in my life time, gay marriage will be allowed everywhere.

His only real belief is that he should be reelected, so he'll probably just stick his finger in the wind, run a focus group or two, and then lie about being able to do anything about it.

I would tend to agree, especially when I know a person really well that was affected by a bust, but I hardly expect other parties to be more accepting of states power to legislate on both of the issues. Basically, I take the best I can get in the two party system.

Obama is going to pander to pretty much any group he can if it means getting enough votes to win reelection.

Remember, just because he says he's for something, that still doesn't mean it's going to happen. Look at Gitmo... he signed a purely symbolic bill on his 1st day in office declaring the closing of the detention center, and more than 3 years later its still open, because the reality is there's no other place to put these guys. Nobody wants them in the US mainland, and nobody in Europe will take them despite their constant berating us for holding prisoners indefinitely and depriving them of rights and blah blah blah.

Fact is, every gay marriage bill on the state and national level has been shot down by voters... it would take some kind of judicial act to make gay marriage legal across the board, and there's no way Obama is going to accomplish this with the current Supreme Court lineup, and the gridlock in Congress, which is only going to get worse if he pushes this hot-button issue to the forefront of the campaign topics.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Good Obama... good.

Yeah, I know he did this I made a thread about it. Considering that if he is relected it will be his last term I am sure we will see his true colors.
