Better late than never.
Seriously though, the only way I can see them actually doing that is if they announce the PS4. Otherwise, this seems to be nothing but empty words on their part.

Pointing out the obvious lol. And PS3 doing just fine? Its the best selling console going into its 6th year, its a money making machine right now. They said they have 20 new announcements, I bet its 12 for the VITA and 8 for PS3 wich will be great. |
Yah, thank the Lord making profit has become something to brag about in business. I darn hope they're making money!

I meant that I doubt they'll actually innovate unless they announce something like Move 2 or PS4.

Sony can rest the innovation this generation. They innovated the eye toy (which Microsoft took credit for this gen because of superior marketing) in the gaming industry but werent happy because it wasn't justifyable in making quality games, which is why they integrated the Wiimote for depth control. Next generation for sure if they please, but I think the motion gimmicks need to end for another seven years to be honest.

Over, what.... 95% of all games on PS360 are multiplat 3rd party titles and are identical. Then you compare their first party titles. Are they different games? Yes. Are there games in each genre between the two companies that are comparable and overall similar? Yes. To me, that means that the two consoles have nearly the same exact game library. Its not ignorant or wrong. Its just simple facts. PS360 are overall very much the same. Why do you think people have called them the "HD Twins" since 2006? |
Goodness gracious. I'm actually pretty stunned here, such a narrow minded thing to post. Oh well, I guess I'm guilty of it sometimes as well.
Let's start. 95% of all games are multiplat and identical. While 95% probably isn't correct, that's not the problem here. Are you saying that because 95% of books are generic shit, the other 5% ( a few tens of thousands, probably) show that books are not varied? Nah, that's stupid, how many books does one read out of the millions available? I'll take one or two thousand varied books at most thanks, that's enough for any human.
Same applies to this console's library. We are human. The average human that plays games will not be playing 30-50 games a year on just one console, they have other commitments and other consoles. That remaining 5% of 'uniqueness' is all that we need. You act as if we play 100% of those titles, or even 25% would be a stretch.
"Then you compare their first party titles. Are they different games? Yes. Are there games in each genre between the two companies that are comparable and overall similar? Yes. To me, that means that the two consoles have nearly the same exact game library. "
Ok so you said 'to me', which is good, but I'm attacking this crazy point of view regardless.
1. Being in the same genre or having similar themes does in no way make the games equal. I mean I can't believe I'm explaining this. Trying to claim that every RPG is like every RPG or every TPS is like every TPS etc is just craaaaaaaaazy. People love and hate games in the same genre, because they're different. Justify this point, because I can't see how anybody can.
2. Thing is, there are a TON of experiences on my PS3 that I can't play on a 360. (Again, 'a ton' is relative to the amount of games I will play per year because I'm a human being, not relative to some number on a spreadsheet, because we're not robots.) Journey, flow, flower, heavy rain, yakuza, where is my heart, .detuned, motorstorm, LBP, folklore, linger in shadows, echochrome, NOBY NOBY BOY (whoo!), pixeljunk eden, tori-emaki, afrika, siren, valkyria chronicles and whatever the hell I'm missing. But I suppose I should stress again, almost every other exclusive game is unique enough too, as I mention above, this is just a list of experiences I do not find on the 360, and I'm sure that console can come up with another list too.
I think they're both called the HD twins because they both output HD resolutions. What's your point.

Gimmicks and continued bleeding of revenue it is then!
I'm just going to have to cave to you guys on this one.
I was speaking in generalities and not exact copies. (I also threw out LBP already as that really has no comparison.)
I said the games were not exactly the same, however they are comparable. I also threw in my personal thought process when I chose to buy the PS3... 1st party games really didn't enter my mind.
Granted that is more likely due to the fact that the PS3 is the first non-Nintendo console I've owned in 20 years. So, the intrinsic differences between God of War/Uncharted and Gears of War/Fable was meh to me. Are they different games? of course. But when I can buy Uncharted/Assassin's Creed/Batman/(fill in some other TPS/Adventure type game) and or Gears/AC/B/(other), then you can see its pretty much the same general set of options.
What's worse, all those games you all listed above are even more similar to various 3rd party games (again leaving out LBP due to its creative distinction). Kinda proves why Sony games don't dominate Sony consoles. Too much similarity and no clear superiority over the competition.
