Forums - Sony - PS4 Specs "leaked" by fudzilla

Aren't those specs better than 'on par' with current gen? Isn't that a contradiction? For tech savvy people, how would PS4 perform with those specs?

Anyway, if it's coming from a developer who has been working with next-gen hardware for a while and is used to it, perhaps he was referring to next-gen when talking about current gen?

The only way PS4 would be 'on par' with PS3 is if they had a totally different way of playing games like Nintendo did, otherwise there wouldn't be any difference between PS3 and PS4. And I don't see Sony doing that.

The ps4 will be leaps and bounds ahead of this generation, sony doesn't do that, VITA is an example of that, everyone expected vita to be barely more powerful than psp, and more gimmicky than any other device they've released to compete with 3DS, well guess what, it's almost as powerful as the PS3...... and it's being sold for a profit

Vita will be sold at a loss for 3 yrs

What stupid statement "on par". If it's merely on par then what's the point of releasing a PS4? Perhaps "on par" means on par with the current generation of PCs? That would make a lot more sense. Though without at least 4GB of RAM I don't know how they can make that statement.

Dedicated systems don't need as much RAM as a general purpose PC. PS3 and Xbox360 both have around 512MB of total RAM (splitted in different ways) and the game look great. If a console has 2GB of RAM it should be more than enough to be "on par" with current generation of PCs.

Let me give you a list of RAM size for different consoles:

PS2: 32MB of RAM plus 4MB of Video RAM (total 36MB)

Gamecube: 24MB of 1T-SRAM plus 3MB of Video RAM plus 16 of generic used RAM (total 43MB)

Xbox: 64MB of RAM (shared)

Wii: 91MB of RAM (splitted for different things)

PS3: 256MB of RAM plus 256 of Video RAM

Xbox 360: 512MB of RAM (shared)

Is it just me or haven't I heard that the way early dev kits work is that they get access to an under-powered box? Just something for them to develop games on, then final spec decisions are made and then they get the real deal.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

You do realize the only thing ridiculous in this thread is your admonishment of it due to a single word 'par'.

Its being used here in the same sense as it was used for the Wii U. Just that the games/ports being tested and used so far run 'on par' with the consoles they were actually created for. It in now way is limiting or demeaning to the overall potential of said device.

Facts are obvious that all these new systems are many times more powerful than PS360. Just look at my comparison thread and relate that to what's in the PS360. Its not even close.

The rumors in this thread on PS4 have been matching what's already been out and they are very reasonable based on expected cost and current tech.

hmm, the vita isn't anywhere near the ps3, and is made of off the shelf parts, it is hardware wise nearly identical to the ipad 2, just doubled core counts, with nice cheap ram, only thing that is special is the screen.  Geometry wise it is somewhere  current games are between the gc and xbox,  scenes in Uncharted are "only" as complex as scenes in a game like Resident Evil 4, where as uncharted ps3 scenes where about 5 times are complex, Uncharted 2 they're in the 8 times as complex range.
The vita isn't anywhere near the twins, frankly the vita points to sony doing something really off the shelf this time

You must have been playing a PSP if you think Vitas graphics are Xbox-GC level. Have you even played Uncharted Golden Abyss or WipEout 2048? Uncharted GA looks almost as good as Uncharted 1 wich was a launch game. Years from now on Vita games will look better than PS3 launch games for sure.

geometry, not shaders, particles, or textures, I mentioned scene complexity and said geometry for a reason.   Frankly anyone that thinks golden abyss looks anywhere near drake's fortune really need to give both another go over. And I choose it geometry because Bend stated the geometry complexity so it isn't just herese, same with the other uncharted games, geometry complexity has been mentioned for them.  Geometry might only be one aspect, but it is no where near the twins there, Shaders and textures don't appear to be as good either, but that isn't based on anything concrete.

The Wii U controller will also be powered by the console though. So I'd imagine powering both an HDTV and a tablet will be very taxing on the Wii U. Any increase of power over current-gen will probably be negated. Again, this is just my hypothesis. Feel free to disagree.

To the annoyoing stalker, shut it.

That all depends on how devs use it

As for the “shut it” there is no need for that kind of stuff in here. This is just a discussion so let’s keep it peaceful, ok?
