It's great that it's getting such good reviews, as it really is one of the best jrpg's in a long time, and everyone needs to pick this game up imo, even if you have to buy a wii for it :D.

I was thinking about buying it within the next few weeks because of my birthday.

If you don't mind me asking, what's so good about it? I haven't dropped $50 on a game in a LONG time so I gotta see if its worth it.

It's completely worth it.

The game is simply massive, with tons of content to go through. The characters are diverse in their abilities, but generally well-balanced: some parties are  better than others for certain playstyles and situations, but there's always a different way to play. The combat system is well done, and holds up even after over a hundred hours.

Basically, it has both scope and depth. Highly recommended.

oh noes. It's Reyn time again.

What a bunch of jokers.

I heard that phrase a lot and never got annoyed with it. Classic, classic game.

Jim sterling gave it an 8.

http://www.destructoid.com/review-xenoblade-chronicles-225166.phtml

he's a pretty dumb reviewer though. He takes an shot at SE in his own review... which contradicts his reviews of other games.

"I am incredibly grateful to Xenoblade Chronicles, for it has rekindled my love for JRPGs, a love that had been systematically throttled by the likes of Square Enix and tri-Ace for the past few years. Not since Lost Odyssey have I been so thoroughly entranced by a Japanese role-player. As I type this, the beautifully sweeping music from the Bionis' Leg area is washing through my head, accompanied by fond memories of successful chain attacks and expertly crafted gems. There's no denying that Xenoblade has its low points, but those high points are some of the highest of the genre. If you own a Wii, there's very little room to question -- this is a must-have game for Nintendo's humble little system."

He gave both chaos rings, and dragon quest IX a 9.5... yet this magically rekindled his love for JRPG's with an 8.

*Note I like this more than either of those games.*

He has an opinion and if you read the description of an 8 in Destructoid it makes sense: "Great: 8s are impressive efforts in their *genre* with a few noticeable problems holding them back. Won't astound the most discerning players, but is worth everyone's time and cash"

We can't expect that everyone loves the game as much as some of us do.

Jim's review is fair. I do believe people are over scoring Xenoblade personally (like most games nowadays). I personally would rate Xeno a 9, but nothing more.

I'm not debating his score, his review generally fine (he sometimes does some good reviews and brings up points, but he generally goes to extremes too much, as well as immature rants imo). However, he states that this game rekindles his love for JRPG's compared SE or Tri-Ace, despite that SE made 2 JRPG's that he himself scored significantly higher.

Edit: I give him credit. I made a comment on destructoid calling him out on what he said, and he  said he meant console JRPG's, which is in fact consistent with how he's been reviewing, and he did it in a non-smartass matter, my opinion of him is +1 XD.

No we just need to wait for GameSpot and IGN. Hopefully they will see the game for what it actually is and not see that it's just on the Wii.

I Have'nt read all pages of this thread so idk if someone already sent the link but here they are

Ign: http://wii.ign.com/articles/118/1187845p1.html

Gamespot 9/10: http://www.gamespot.com/xenoblade-chronicles/reviews/xenoblade-chronicles-review-6329918/

Both reviewed last year when it launched in europe. And I think if i'm not mystaken that Gamespot even gave that game Wii 2011 Game of the Year award over Skyward Sword (wich caused some drama :P)

Now I have 2 questions to those who already played the game.

1: I heard that the game is best played on the classic controler. I dont have one, will I be fine playing it with wiimote+nunchucks?

2: In every trailers I've seen so far, I always see  shulk and his friends running, running, running and more running. I know that the game is rly huge, but seeing those trailers reminded me of how painfull and boring it was running around Pulse in FFXIII before you could ride chocobos. So my question is - Are they anyway way of transportations to make you go faster or anyway to get you from one area to the other quickly or will I be stucked spending 40% of my game time running slowly to get to places I need to go? (plz dont spoil anything to me, if you get to ride a plane, a dragon or a unicorn I dont wanna know lol, I just want a short answer telling me ''yes, you get to run alot and this can become a problem'' or ''no, you get something to fix this problem eventualy'' or ''you dont get to run as much as it looks in the trailers'' anything that could answer but no spoilers plz :) lol)

Anyway, I know I'm picking up this game tomorow, I got a call from gamestop telling me that I could pick it up tomorow for some reason, maybe because I preordered or because we canadian get it 1day early idk :P

Not to rain on the parade but this "statistic" list given is kinda inaccurate.

479 Quests - I hope you like about 10 quests, because out of this "479" that's about all the variations you're going to get. Kill XX monsters, Kill XX monsters for X item's, Talk to this NPC, Hit this monument, Gather XX materials from the mini blue orbs on the field, Kill X NM. They really dropped the ball with this.

344 affinity links - These are cool, and you can unlock some pretty sick traits.

310 Items - Lots of items, but a lot of them are pretty useless.

165 named NPC's - True, LOADS of NPCs.

157 Unique Enemies (non-story bosses) - Yeah, this one is way off. There's more like 30 "unique" monsters. Add in 5/6 variations for every single monster and you hit this figure.

150 Record- achievements - Trophy whores rejoice.

63 Heart-To-Hearts - These are actually semi decent, but in the grand scheme of things not really worth it because the mini conversations are so short.

50 Trial-achievements - More trophy whoring :D

again, AMAZING game, but it's not perfect. So please don't expect it to be.

Sounds like a proper JRPG no doubt.  I'm expecting something around the quality of tales of symphonia. If its less corny than that, but as technically as tight then I will be delighted.  I am very thankful that Europeans proved that this game had an audience outside of Japan.  This game will now sell more than 500K, something it previously might not have.

The Metascore has gone down to 91 now...

It's American release was not worth the loss!

I agree that some of the quests were samey, but the named ones (of which there are over 300), for the most part, are a bit different. These are the quests which give you the exp., the good items and the affinity links. Lest we forget the 'guilds', or quest-chains, as well ("The Pollen Orb Apprentice", which is 16 quests long, "The Adventurer's ordeals", which is 11 quests long, "The Sweetest of them All", 10 quests long...there's many others, like the Young Captain, the Nopon Sage, the Ultimate Cook-Off etc., most of which lead to the unlocking of a new skill tree for one of the characters; a reward unto itself. In addition, all of the Colony 6 quests are unique, and help you to reap rewards from what ypu're putting into the game, which is something few games of this type do. I haven't yet mentioned anything about the Giant's Treasures, or the High Entia Mark, or collecting the items for Colony 6...saying all the quests are the same is too harsh.

344 affinity links - These are cool, and you can unlock some pretty sick traits

Pretty much. I liked being able to completely wreck relationships and having to do extra stuff to fix it, or just leave it and be EVIL!

310 Items - Lots of items, but a lot of them are pretty useless.

Every item and collectible can be used for gifts, a quick way to raise affinity, for money, to complete the collectopedia or for the Colony 6 rebuild.

165 named NPC's - True, LOADS of NPCs.

Not much to say here.

157 Unique Enemies (non-story bosses) - Yeah, this one is way off. There's more like 30 "unique" monsters. Add in 5/6 variations for every single monster and you hit this figure.

Every single one of these monsters has a unique name, a unique fighting style, often unique drops (like advanced art books, weapons), and tons of exp.. They're also a joy to fight and can pose quite the challenge, and the fights have quite possibly the most kick-ass battle music EVA!

150 Record- achievements - Trophy whores rejoice.

YAY!

63 Heart-To-Hearts - These are actually semi decent, but in the grand scheme of things not really worth it because the mini conversations are so short.

I admit, the entry requirements were too high ftmp, and the conversations short. But it reminded you of the impact in the world, and how you're building the relationships between the characters. And many add heavily to the back-story, which is nice.

50 Trial-achievements - More trophy whoring :D

See above.

again, AMAZING game, but it's not perfect. So please don't expect it to be.

I don't wish to sound contradictory, because the game isn't perfect. Far from it. But some of your criticisms seem a bit...wishy-washy :/
