Watched Children of Man pretty good I give it a 7.8/10. Also watched World War Z its a lot better then I thought it would be I give it a 7.5/10 the sequel should be good.

Around the Network

I love children of men, then he did gravity ugh.

I started watching sunshine (2nd time) remembered why I had forgotten most about it, quit halfway through. It looks pretty and it certainly portrays the sun as this awesome power source, but the rest of the science is just too terrible. Using plants to make oxygen on a space ship...
Just another one of those, people shouldn't go on long trips cause they always end up killing each other.

watched the new godzilla all I can say is it was OK.. pretty dissapointing for me since I love the classic godzilla and noah but only half and its really, really bad maybe it will get better but I doubt it. also a bunch of asian movies but nothing worth mentioning.. re watched true detective and it was still for the second time really good.

Watched it over 3 days, what is this strange compulsion that you must finish watching what you record.

The last ship 3/10
I watched the first episode. My pvr already had recorded 2 more, must delete them.

New movies should arrive tomorrow :)

Around the Network

There is always a chance the last ship gets better. They seem to do their best to get all the cliches and stereo types out of the way first....

New stuff on Discovery (Canada):

Syberian cut. Not bad, group of Americans going to Syberia to make money cutting down trees with a group of Russians. Seems like it should be on the history channel, like stepping back in time 50 years or more.

Game of Stones. Dramatized gem dealers. Buy gems in dodgy areas in the world straight from the source to sell for huge profit. Looks fake.

Ice cold gold season 2. They're back in Greenland trying to get rubies out of the rocks, can only get there by helicopter, didn't bring the right equipment, not enough fuel, same old.

Dual survival has finally started the season where Cody Lundin quits. Joe tries to attack a king Cobra but Cody manages to talk him down in the first episode.

Mantracker is back on. New tracker who surprises the contestants by actually getting of his horse to try to grab them.

Naked and afraid is back too, I haven't watched the new season yet.

Game of stones is highly dramatized and not honest with prices and the worth of what they find either. Must be from the makers of Jungle gold.

Mantracker is also a bit convenient that he always 'gives' up almost catching them, unless they are near the finish. Can't catch them early.
Ice cold gold, all the navigation equipment conveniently craps out in the fog, worked again fine when the captain turned it back on later...
Syberian cut, leave the new arrivals on their own night 1 in a dogy broken down cabin with someone banging on the door cursing them in Russian.
Dual survival, perfectly staged, they always find the exact stuff they need for each trip.

Naked and afraid is the most real, but they need 21 days to get enough drama for a 1 hour show.
Deadliest catch solves it by following 6 boats and the coast guard.

Got to have your bit of drama at least 5 times per episode! Need 'cliffhangers' for those commercial breaks.

Still no raid 2, delivery got lost. Replacement should hopefully arrive on friday.

Meanwhile after depleting discovery channel I watched another 2 episodes of the last ship. It doesn't get any better yet, but there is some fun to be had predicting how bad the next scene will be. So far they've been to gitmo to get confronted by some al'qaeda on the loose, to then get cornered by a Russian warship gone rogue wanting to steal their scientist. The nonsense that follows has to be seen to be believed. 3rd episode 2/10, or 8/10 on the cult scale.

I finished the long earth today. 9/10.
Can't wait to read the second book. Great ideas, fast paced writing (I read Game of Thrones, dance with dragons before this, what a slog) wonderful imagery. Why can't screenplays be like this. This book could be turned into an awesome series. But 99% chance the '42 minutes with 5 commercial breaks' episode straight jacket would kill it.

The book starts when someone posts instructions online how to make a stepper box out of simple components. With a simple switch people can now travel east or west along a (maybe) infinite series of parallel earths. The story focuses part on exploration of the long earth and on the effects on humanity when suddenly faced with unlimited resources and space. There are some restrictions of course to make it more interesting. Along the way they discover trolls and elves, hominids that have a natural ability to step between worlds. Yet no other human cultures. And something is causing the other hominids to migrate eastwards along the long earth.
