Forums - General - Topless avatars too much?

Do you think the topless avatars are too much?

Yes 145 40.50%

No 213 59.50%

Total:358

Even though I sparsley posted for much of my career here (think I took a 3.5 year break posting on forums in general) as a seasoned member and frequenter of this site I must vociferously disagree with you.  The avatars are sometimes  A LOT to handle, but what the hell, freedom of expression right?  That is what the interwebz is for.  Otherwise, why the hell are we even doing this?  First you get rid of topless male avatars, then what?  No more Kate Upton bikini avatars?  That's not the world I want to live in.   Lets leave the censorship up to the Chinese government.

i wonder why so many use nsfw example. i believe here in germany it's worse for me if people in the office see some gaming characters than woman in bikini or just men. it's like "what the fuck you play videogames?" "grow up this is for kids" or "is this one of these killer game internet sites?"

with a bikini girl or so (and we never had a naked here i believe) i just would get sayed "ohh nice girl" lol

and to the guy few sites before saying "sthey have it to express how cool they are" wtf? i didn't have my last avatar to be cool. and with that logic i coud say the same if you have a little big planet character or whatever. i just don't get it, it's totally normal that people like to see nice girls/guys, it's our nature to think so and not to see a character of a videogame.  i had it becasuse i liked that girl and because i was there by myself and found that pic accidentally on the internet one year after the beach soccer game. that's all and i make my avatar pic for myself because these are the pics i see most of the time. so i will make a pic for me what i wish to see. like a wallpaper or so.

This thread has worked! The amount of NSFW (in my opinion) avatars has fallen by 66%. Now all that remains are the guy who posted in the thread with the pornstar avatar, and monocle man with the 2-dollar whore avatar.

When did you become so...uh..."prudish"?

When he thought his GF suspected him of being gay?

so you went all the way and put manboobs instead then

My problem is that there are no topless women avatars. For some reason it's okay to see a man's nipples, but the female's nipples are deemed to be evil. So no, I do not have a problem with topless avatars.

I don't care enough to let someone know I dislike their avatar so long as its SFW, but I'm generally not a fan of topless avatars, male or female.

I wonder if people think men are gay because they walk on the beach with other topless men

A good fix would be to flag a persons avatar so it won't load while you are logged into your account. Other people can see it, but if you chose to flag it then you won't see it.

Or possibly when you upload an avatar you have to state if it is a little risque. So if a person updates their profile to not display risque avatars, then they will not appear while you browse the site.

I'm not sure how hard these methods would be to implement, but I think the first method would be the best for the user, and it has a good middle ground.

Adblock Plus. Block image.

Huzzah!

QFE (Quoted for emphasis).

That's actually the perfect solution. This way you block all avatars that disturb you and life goes on.

@kain: I'll have you know that I look just like James Franco

That is a given but that wouldn't be integrated into your account, so when you change computers you have to disable it again. Also we could much simply edit our pofile to not show unwanted avatars. And when a person changes their avatar from one thing to another, you have to disable it again.

Though it is true that adblock is the easiest solution.

if your going to allow people to have avatars featuring barely clothed male or females on a site that is supposed to be safe for work you should have the option to at least not display them like we can choose not to display sigs. Or make some guidleines/rules for avatars. I could be wrong but this site is also supposed to be under 18 freindly isn't it? makes me wonder about my avatar, and this site looks way better with sigs disabled already.

if it would be only on the beach but every second is topless in the own garden everyone can look at. next time i will use a jacket in the sun because there are people under 18 who pass my garden

i understand now what they mean with "huge porn industry but very prude in real life"

i mean, i have two guys and a little girl with GUNS in my sig and really nobody would care about that but if i would have a woman with bikini or man topless it would be "too much" and "this site is meant for people under 18 as well"

that's crazy! yeah they aren't real but what's with a pic of rambo with a weapon or so? nobody would care! what's our nature, born naked  or a weapon in the hand?

How about we get an option to disable avatars like we already do for signatures? That way everybody is happy. The pages would probably load faster as well.

I reccomend that you get some clothes on your avatar or Man Bear will go after you next !

Yes, I am like sega4life, but instead of signature size, I will go after NSFW avatars...
