Forums - Nintendo - WiiU doom train is here. ALL ABROARD! choo-choo

It's slightly more understandable that the bias would be stronger from people who develop in the downloadable games space.

Wii U IS DOOMED!

*RUNS STRAIGHT TO UNDER THE BED*

"Someone still believe that 3rd parties don't do well on Nintendo platform. LOL."

Well, it's true. The only 3rd party games that sell well on Wii are dance/party games.

Company whose games don't do very well complains that if they released them on Wii U they wouldn't do very well...... hmmm.

There are plenty of examples on the wii of developers who put a proper effort and budget into a game and got great sales on it. Epic Mickey? Over 2.5 million. Monster hunter Tri? Over 2 million and best selling console MH game.

Here's a surprise as well. Call of duty 3 that actually launched at the same time as the 360 and PS3 versions managed to over 2 million. Outselling the PS3 version and not far behind the 360 version. They then neglected to release MW (the game that made CoD explode in popularity) on the system for years and didn't bother with MW2. Then brought out gimped versions of the other games and were surprised they didn't perform well.

Yes there are examples like the Conduit that failed. However it was a new sci-fi IP by a relatively unknown (and not well viewed) studio. There are plenty of examples of games on 360/Ps3 that also failed like Shadows of the Damned.

Too many companies simply tried to throw out cheap versions of HD games that didn't use the wii controls well.

Let's look at the companies you are talking about. Disney, Capcom, Activision. Hardly a fair comparison.

And MW did as well on wii as COD3 did. Annnnnnd it wasn't a port. That was all the system could handle.

Wii
Cod3 sales - 2.14 million
MW sales - 1.43 million

In comparison to the 360/ ps3
Cod3 sales -2.56m / 1.33m
MW sales - 8.59m / 6.05
CoD3 same time. MW years after. Care to try and justify your stance that MW did as well on Wii as CoD3? CoD3 not only sold far better but also managed to kee pace with/ do better than the HD consoles. Then the series lost traction on Wii as the biggest installment skipped it until it was too late.

Also how is it an unfair comparison? He didn't say ''unless you are published by a big publisher or Nintendo you don't tend to do very well''. I used publishers who weren't Nintendo which is perfectly in line with what he said ''it’s become increasingly apparent that unless you are published by Nintendo you don’t tend to do very well.''

If you're going to be a semantics nazi, try looking up the word "tend".

And yeah, if you wanna have a debate about cod vs mw3, show me one title that even comes close to those games. Dude the games are just bad, and on top of it, the whole draw of MW is the hardcore gamers. There's never even been a game remotely like MW on Nintendo going back ten years, and even then, goldeneye is probably the closest thing. CoD was a different type of game than modern warfare. Anyone who has played both can attest. They're completely different. CoD3 was able to sell on wii because it had a certain audience. Modern warfare didn't because of the audience. To top it off, MW is very much an online game, and I'm sure you understand the extent of the Nitnendo Online ability.

On a side note

“Well, we’ve already announced versions of Stranger and Munch for the Vita"

Does this mean that Strangers Wrath that I bought on PS3 wont play on my Vita?

Yes he said tend, so I provided some clear cut examples of how he is wrong. There is no tendency. You said this isn't a fair comparison. I could list out the huge amount of other examples, but it would simply take too long. So I used the best examples. THQ with De blob, sonic, no more heroes, lego series bla bla bla.

I'm sorry you are totally changing the issue. You said and I quote ''and MW did as well on wii as COD3 did.'' I demonstrably showed that this statement was completely and utterly untrue. And your argument now is errr well let's take a look. You are saying ''CoD was able to sell well on wii'' and ''Modern warefare didn't'' so I'm sorry are you going to stick with your original point that MW did as well as CoD3 did or are you going to go with your second and completely opposite point that CoD3 sold well and MW didn't? You know the second point which totally agrees with me, who you disagreed with =)

So yea you should probably decide if you want to stick with your point that ''MW did as well on wii as CoD3 did'' or your point that ''CoD was able to sell well on wii.......... MW didn't.''

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

Okay, i'm on board.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

You showed some clear cut "exceptions" to the rule. Tendency refers to the most part, and for the most part, third parties haven't done well on wii. Factual statement. I'm also sorry you're getting all bent out of shape about it that it's distorting your view.

I'm not changing the issue, you are missing the point. 2m vs ~1.5m is huge? It's only huge in your eyes because you look at the difference between HD CoD and MW, and translate it to the wii. Sure it's 25% difference but lot's of games do that from sequel to sequel. Look at resistance 1 to 2, 4m vs 2m, and then to R3, it's 2m to 1m! Drops of 50%. There's a long list of games that drop like that. Most wii game sequels have that drop. Look it up.

What you're confusing yourself on, or misunderstanding me on, is that comparitively across platforms MW didn't do as well on wii as CoD. But on the same platform, it did about normal. I illustrated why a game like MW was able to do so well on HD, and why it couldn't on Wii, and so starting with the idea that MW is just a normal game without that strength,...it did as well as CoD.

When I said "able to sell", I was referring to "able to sell like HD", hence all the comparisons to HD and strengths on HD.

I agree. It's an exception when it goes against my belief.

Just Add Water not interested in Wii U, says non-published Nintendo games don’t do well

January 31st, 2012

Developers and publishers have, for the most part, been positive when speaking about Wii U. But one studio that won’t be working on the console is Just Add Water.

Just Add Water is responsible for PSN’s Gravity Crash and the recently released Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD.

When CEO Stewart Gilray was asked about the console, he said that he’s “currently” not interested in working with Nintendo or on the Wii U itself. Gilray believes that only Nintendo-published games succeed on the company’s platforms, and Nintendo has a “crazy regard to IP and refuse to sign NDAs with indie-developer/publishers”.

“Well, we’ve already announced versions of Stranger and Munch for the Vita, but with regards to Nintendo, currently I’m not interested in working with them, or on their platform. Having developed a number of titles over the years for their various platforms, it’s become increasingly apparent that unless you are published by Nintendo you don’t tend to do very well.

“They also have this crazy regard to IP and refuse to sign NDAs with indie-developer/publishers, leaving us small guys open to having our ideas stolen with no recourse. We have already looked at doing some stuff on iOS and all I can say is watch this space.”
