I couldn't help but notice the increasing number of people around the internet declaring themselves fans of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic show- but I didn't understand how it was possible to be a fan of a cartoon surely aimed at young girls. 

So what did I do? I decided to watch it, to see what all the fuss was about. I was expecting..well, what you'd expect me to expect - but I discovered a show that is well animated, with interesting characters and good humour! I've watched 3 episodes, but I'm wondering whether I should watch more; the only thing really stopping me is that it still feels "wrong" to be watching something like this and enjoying it - it's a really strange feeling.

Have any of you watched MLP:FIM? What did you think of it? ...Should I watch more?

I have, it has certain humour in it that isn't found in modern cartoons. I only watched 5-6 episodes, and am not that into it, but I see nothing from watch it.

I never had a problem watching a cartoon series if I find it interesting. For example I watched the first season of phineas and ferb. I should start season 2 sometime.

In all seriousness, the show is pretty well done and has some likeable characters. It's not the best show ever, and could use some more continuity IMO, but it's worth watching and has the most creative fandom around nowadays. I watched all the episodes just once or twice, but have spent countless hours enjoying the fanfiction, artwork, videos, and games these guys have made. Plus, you'll rarely find any community on the internet as friendly.

Nothing wrong with enjoying the show.

What annoys me is how some people are WAY too obsessed with it. I mean like wwwaaaaaayyyyyy too obsessed.

Like, obsessed on a level that is just not right.

Y'know what I mean?...okay.

Most people would agree that it's a great show. The only thing that annoys me is that there's a whole subculture of males in their 20s who are obsessed with the show not necessarily because it's the best cartoon ever, but because there's a clear irony between their demographic and the intended audience of the show.

Just another symptom of a culture that refuses to make people grow up

I find it odd that guys in my age group (20s) would be really interested in this show.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking the show. While I have yet to see the show, I did see this death metal music video and loved it!
