I find it odd that guys in my age group (20s) would be really interested in this show.

I particularly liked the series Invader Zim. I wondered why I would like a cartoon series, but then I decided to don't give a fuck and just enjoy the series. Too bad they cancelled it, a shame really...

Point is, watch whatever you want, it's just a TV show. It's made to entertain people, you shouldn't feel wrong about what the show was made for. And obviously you're not the only one enjoying it.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Interesting that you say that because I just watched this video:

I find the entire thing very odd. Most kids shows that appeal to a slightly older audience there is a reason. So with Spongebob it is the fact that it is full of utterly bizarre non-sequiturs and appeals to ahem midnight tokers.

Invader Zim because it is rather horrifically dark. An entire episode centers around stealing organs and Zim is shown with intestines, livers etc in his mouth. At which point an intestine falls out and he slurps it up lol.

Samurai jack one of the oddest ideas for a 'kids' show ever. Entire segments with no dialogue at all, episodes stylized after classic cinema etc.

Lots of animes are simply dark, deal with adult themes etc.

Other things are nostalgia. I love the transformer movies purely because they remind me of being a child and sitting watching optimus prime and megatron fight lol.

But MLP is basically just a very simplistic childrens cartoon that is reasonably well done. There isn't really anything special about it. Nothing really different to say the care bears. I mean fans always say it's well done, which it is for a kids show. I'm not really sure what aspect older people are enjoying? Maybe they enjoy it because it makes them feel like a child, but then why not watch something from childhood? It's just this thing where mid 20 guys like it because hey others do too!

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

Being naturally curious and after hearing many, many people claim their undying love for the show, I decided to investigate after reading this thread. And yes, the show is surprisingly (for me) well done. The art style is great, all the voice acting is spot on, and there's plenty of laughs to be had. I do think that it is, at least partly, the simple nature of the show that appeals to so many people, in addition to the tongue in cheek humour (yep). I'll admit that trying to keep an open mind about this show was hard, cause... it's about freaking ponies. But it is quite entertaining, and a lot of that has to do with the characters and the humour. And if you can ignore the cheesy "friendship" message at the end of each episode.

That said, I'm also a fan of Spongebob (partly because I grew up with the show; the later ones aren't as good though), and both my sisters and myself love Invader Zim (one sister and I got the other sister and her husband Gir snuggies. She of course immediately put it on and wore it for the rest of the day).

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I also just last week decided to see what the hoopla about this show was, so I watched the entire series up to this point, didn't take long.

Its good, its not a grand epic show, it lacks any great story arcs, and its pretty much reset at the end of each episode

But its still a good show, its lighthearted and humorous. Plus it has a good message about friendship without being too preachy or needing to do the whole 80's "Knowing is half the battle route".

That being said, I also wonder why people are that obsessed with it, its a good show but not good enough to warrant the near obsessive following it has.

I did enjoy the casting of John De Lancie (Q from Star Trek) as Discord, as a Trek fan I thought that was a stroke of genius
