Forums - Nintendo - Do gamers want voice acting in Nintendo made games? Do we know what we want?

I also agree. I'm done reading all this shit as it goes too slow for me.

I want everyone else talking with simple response options. Link needs to be silent or have a mic to listen to me.

This has potential if voice recognition technology really improves. Right now, even Microsoft's Speech-To-Text software on windows 7 sucks.

Where MS has failed Google and Apple have greatly suceeded. Additionally, win7 may not be all that but Kinect's works ok and I'm sure win8 will be good.

nintendo games in general arent really about the story, so making the story more immersive or whatever voice acting does to games is not necessary. nintendo games are mainly about the world and the gameplay and the characters personalities are conveyed in their actions, quirks, and interactions with the world. mario and link have had no voices so far and they are beloved, world reknown characters. video games arent movies and as such the player does not need to be told what a character sounds like. leave some imagination in it.

Everyday I'm hustlin'.

No voice acting, thanks. I'm a fast reader, so cutscenes with written dialogue are usually much shorter foe me than ones with spoken dialogue. (If you can speed up the text, which I hear you can't do in SS) Besides, I could count the amount of Nintendo games I've played that have good voice acting on one hand with four severed fingers.

Link should stay silent and Samus should go back to being silent. I don't mind if other characters get voice acting though.

Everyone seems to be pointing to the awful Zelda games that we're supposed to pretend to have forgotten about, but what about Mario Sunshine? The voice acting in that is terrible as well, and that was actually a Nintendo game.

I didn't think the voice acting was that bad. Everyone sounded like the sound bites that come from the other games.

I'm sorry, but Princess Peach was downright irritating in that game.

Also, I don't know about Link talking, but I do think that the other characters in the Zelda games should speak.

Dude have never heard Peach's voice? Peach has had the same voice actor since 1999. It's just the in that game she said a full sentence instead of just "Maaaarrrriiiioooooo!"

I'd go with no, and what the poster said about a company being forced to change voice actors is true, atleast to my experience; I loved the voice over of Peach in SM64 and MK64, but ever since Leslie Swan was changed for somebody else, I was enraged and to some degree to this day. And don't get me started on the the Sonic characters, OMG that was painfull! >_

true keeping voice actors around can be difficult, but that works perfectly well for some games.  Zelda in particular is specifically supposed to be a different cast every time so it'd make sense to have a different cast of voice actors every game.  Established IP's should probably keep the main character silent to keep from having the issue you mention (changing side character voices isn't that bad), but remember even now most of those characters have voice actors (all the Mario characters) they just don't say much.

...

All of the characters except Link and probably Kirby should talk by now. Mario probably shouldn't talk because there is no way to write intelligible dialogue about all the shit that happens to him.
