I think the best thing nintendo can do is introduce a new controller along with the tablet controller tho this controller will be similar to the xbox/ps3 controllers - basically replacing the wii motes with regular wireless controllers. This has a number of advantages - in co-op games people who use regular wireless controllers will be at a smaller disadvantage than those using wii motes. Add to that the fact that if someone finds the price of the tablet controllers too prohibitive, they can buy the cheaper wireless controllers.

Wiimotes will be fully compatible with WiiU meaning classic contoller pro is also compatible which is a controller like the xbox/ps3 contollers

Nintendo is lazy. They better provide a better option than the Wii mote and nunchuk or else they will suffer the fate of consumers seeing it as another Wii. There has to be an update of those motion controls to better resemble the accuracy of the PlayStation Move.

Lazy is a strong word. Complacent? sure, they have motion+ but they dont support the damn thing. I think i can count the motion+ compatible games Ninty made on one hand. While i need at least two for Move or Kinect. And motion+ has been out far longer, its pathetic.

You don’t add motion for the sake of motion. If it can’t be implemented in a good way then it will ruining the game instead of making it better.

What Nintendo games have been made can use motion+? Zelda, Wii sports resort and fling smash or whatever it is called use it but you can’t add that to a SSB or a SMB. You don’t need to use all the buttons on a controller just because it has them. The Wii mote has the pointer and accelerometer which are used in FPS and racing games and just games that need waggle.

As for the OP

SSB will most likely not use the screen at all on Wii U. It will probably play the way people are used to it when in multiplayer form. Maybe the screen will be used when you play online.

They already demonstrated how multiplayer would work if the U-pad was used. Four Wii controllers and one U-pad that the players will take turn in using.

Thats funny cause i can name at least three games of the bat that had motion just for the hell of it. DK Returns, Warioland, NSMBW, all those motions could have been done with a button.  What about all those games released on the system that sucked because the actual motion tech was an inaccurate mess?? Your telling me better motion fidelity could not have helped. Im not saying they should have just made games with Motion+ for the hell of it, but damnit if your already making a motion heavy game, just have motion+ supported at least as an option. Even Sony does that with Move

I think it'll be an issue, along with the cost of the tablets themselves

I want 4 player games with tablets, do video compression, have less FPS, I don't care, just make it happen!

@OP

You really need to think before making a thread.

You spend several paragraphs describing a 'problem' that could take 10 words to explain.

Not to mention that you are;
- failing to see several solutions to this problem that might already be in progress
- ignoring the fact that we haven't heard much about the Wii U at all so you can't comment about its functionality

Pretty poor.

Those are laughable concerns, at least with the examples you provided.

Super Smash Bros. can simply be played by connecting Classic Controllers to the Wiimotes. Mario Kart is already playable with a Wiimote setup and the Wiimote/Nunchuk option in the Wii game was superior to the CC and GC controller setups. For other types of games, the Wiimote/Nunchuk setup is perfectly viable.

I take it, you have never played the Wii.

Watch out the nintendo defense squad are in.

Sure NSMB didn’t need it but it was only one move that didn’t really make the game worse anyway same goes for DKR.

What is the game Nintendo added motion to just for the sake of it? Or are are talking about 3rd party games? Never played Warioland so I can’t comment on how motion was on it. Well Sony needs to add the option as not everybody has move but everybody has a wiimote and if plus is needed it is usually added with the game.

Now if you want a game to be supporting both motion and regular buttons that wouldn’t work for a game like Zelda SS as it is built around using motion+. That means all the AI will respond to how you move the controller and if you wanted the option to use buttons they would have to write an AI that responds to how Link will behave by pressing a button.

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

if they can add another tablets into the gameplay I am sure that will allow 3 or 4 tablets as well. NO?

I already told you that these examples are laughable. Quick tap buttons for SSB? The controls are already quick as it is. More complex controls? That would go against the core gameplay of SSB. Quick tap buttons for power-ups in Mario Kart? Apparently you don't know that you only carry one power-up at a time, so there's no difference between a normal button press and a quick tap button. I wish you actually sat down and thought about this before you made this thread. All you've really got so far is the suggestion to destroy the core gameplay of SSB in order to give the Wii U controller a purpose. This is ridiculous.

Now in the second paragraph you are getting there. You raise valid concerns why the Wii U is worthless. But as you said previously, these concerns don't belong in this thread. So what's this thread actually good for? Your personal humiliation?

So are you suggesting that Nintendo should keep all there games exactly the same?  No true innovation?  No trying anything new?  Guess we shouldn't have got any of the Mario games past Mario 1.  No Mario 3, that introduced flying, as well as other power-ups and a world map.  Super Mario World took that a step further, should have went back to the same Mario 1 formula.  Super Mario RPG, one of my favorite Marios, that's just too drastic a change.  Mario 64, screw that game, it was in full 3D and let you explore a 3D world.  Too drastic.  Mario Sunsine, Mario Galaxy 1&2; shouldn't have made those games, gameplay changed in those.  Heck, even NSBW had simultaneous multiplayer, that's nuts.  Should have just got clones of Mario 1, like the Lost Levels game we got in the US (Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan).

While the above is hyperbole, it still illustrates a very good point.  Even with all the drastic changes Nintendo has made to the Mario formula, not mention their other franchises, you act as if it would be a HUGE stretch of the imagination if they added a little more depth to the Smash Bros. gameplay.  Or, God forbid, had it where you could pick up MORE THAN ONE power-up in Mario Kart and select between them with the tablet controller.  Sounds like a natural progression to me.

As for your petty humiliation comment, lol.  Yes, the internet is "serz biz."  And I get embarassed when people don't agree with me.  My life sucks like that.

You could switch between two power-ups in Mario Kart Double Dash without touch controls. If you are so sure about these troubles you really should be able to provide better examples than this, otherwise it just sounds like you want to see trouble where there is none, for various reasons.

What I find funny is that some of you are trying to find fault in my arguments by suggesting that touch controls aren't necessary.  So in essence you're saying, "That won't be an issue because the tablet and its touch controls, the thing that will be the MAIN draw to gamers and casuals who aren't exactly Nintendo fans, isn't needed.  Especially in Nintendo's main franchises."  So, what's the point to owning it then if its main feature isn't necessary?  Plus, I don't know what crazy things you think they will be doing with the tablet, but the things I described are very plausible applications of the tech.  I hope if they happen to do similar things with it, you guys aren't disappointed.

We're five years into the motion control era, even if Sony and Microsoft are somewhat behind the curve in that regard, but the thing is, we don't necessarily need full motion control in every game. Some big Nintendo games have a big focus on motion controls (Wii Sports, Mario Kart, the upcoming Skyward Sword), but others have minimal motion control if any at all (Super Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, NSMB). Basically, they use them fully when they feel it can be justified. I'd say it's likely that Nintendo take this route because they saw everyone under the sun attempt to shoehorn full motion controls into games that probably didn't really need them early on in the gen, and that didn't do much for the reputation of motion controls.

Now, is it not at all possible that this will happen next gen as well with the Wii U controller? That Nintendo will only use its full capabilities when they actually see fit? And with other games perhaps use it minimally?
