Some Thoughts:

In the past decade, 06-15, Sony lost$3.3B, Nintendo made $15.5B, and MSFT made $3.1B

The PS3 years (06-13) lost $3.6B, 360 years (05-13) made $1M, and Wii years made $15.5B

It seems the Nintendo will make more money on the Wii U than sony did on the ps3. Also I could see Nintendo making of fro their losses in 2014 this year due to the holidays.

PS4 wasnt out in 2011

Check the new post with 2014.

Oh didnt see that

Question on the Microsoft part - is this just the Xbox division?  Because Microsoft has been making games since at least the early 80's.  Even Gates himself coded a little car game.

Plus they  made some really good Flight Sims, Age of, and other games.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Are the MS figures just gaming division or do they include other stuff? As it is, it looks like MS selling less hardware and software still has them performing better financially.

We have absolutely no clue how much Xbox alone made because microsoft lumps it with Surface which as far as i know is profitable.

So you can't really compare MS numbers

This is silly. The Sony numbers include all consumer products in some years. So no doubt tv's, laptops, phone etc.

Wasn't the $2.8B loss in 2012 also with restructuring those divisions, and the TV business or something else being seperated into it's own entity?

Unless they all release figures just for the gaming divisions then it's not worth comparing.

At least your Sony numbers have the wrong years. Sony's fiscal year 2015 isn't over yet, and neither is the calendar year, so either way you look at it, your system doesn't make any sense.

Couple that with the fact that these numbers aren't only gaming segment. In the case of Sony for their Fiscal Years (And I'm talking Sony's actual Fiscal Years) 2008 and 2009, while for Microsoft, at least the later years (lol at that 1.8 billion in 2015). This comparison is just flawed to begin with.

the fist profitable surface quarter was holiday 2014
also the xbox divison does not include the first party and xbox live revenue (at least not until they changed the reporting this september)

red the q10 files submitted to the sec. there are breakdowns.
we know the gross maring for the xbox platform each year.
just not the operating profit, because ms account theire marketing and research expense company wide not in the division (this changed in september, too)

sony and nintendo data is easy to find in theire earning reports.
and yes. sony made the least money while selling the most. kind of weird, but marketshare =/profits

They usually do.

That's kind of expected.  Nintendo usually prices their systems to make money.  Sony priced their PS3, at a price that was vastly under what it cost to manufacture.

The 60GB version cost 850$ and they sold it for 600$, the 20GB version cost 800$ and they sold it for 500$.  That's 250/300$ loss per system.

How much did the wii are 360 cost to make?

The PS3 launched at a time, when Blu Ray players were sold for 1000$ without any gaming features.

The blu-ray, plus some chips were very expensive.

The Wii on the other hand, used familiar parts.  The optical drive was the same as the Gamecube only full sized.  Much of the console was Gamecube-ish.

Certainly under 250$, but the article I found suggests 158$, which makes sense I think.

http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/15/wii-manufacturing-costs-ring-up-to-just-158/

No idea on 360.

And when the wii launched it was sold for $250 so if it was made with the price $158 i could see why Nintendo made so much.
