Forums - Politics - Could Canada arrest Goerge Bush?

Getting a warrant out may be just as effective as actually arresting him

I would personally support the arrest of him for torture. eventhough i think Bush is probably a decent person and nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe. waterboarding is torture. even by definition in the US. the US executed people for waterboarding their troops. now, i wouldnt support the execution or even something like life imprisonment but there should be accountability for the actions.

I don't see the problem with torture...

If you know the person is guilty and they are holding back vital information that could save lives or bring someone to justice, then they should be able to do whatever they can to get that information off them.

i dont see anything wrong with stealing cars.  so im going to go steal this car here and shouldnt be prosecuted because i just said stealing cars arent wrong.   just forget that i previously shot someone trying to steal my own car.

Ahh cool, hope you have fun.

What type of car is it?

I guess you don't know much about torture, do you?

Maybe goerge Bush, But not George Bush. I like to call him The Bush. Isn't there a diplomatic immunity thing that would keep him safe? I do not think they would even dare to! Doesn't matter what they said he did. But if they did somehow he would be immediately brought back to the U.S.

Don't know, as he's no longer a diplomat. Dimplomatic immunity is a sham, and should be eliminated though.

Wow your obsession with America keeps getting more absurd. I am not a fan of George Jr at all, but to have this actually happen is a work of fantasy.

lol I'm not obsessed with America, I am obsessed with politics and my country happens to be Canada. Canada's biggest partner is America and most stories relating to Canadian politics involve America. You'll note every thread I have made about America in the last few months have all been about Canada.

The reason they seem absurd is probably because I am Canadian and Canadian's have drastically different views on America and its politics. I was actually going to create a poll that said more Canadians support Obama then our Prime Minister. But thought that one Canadian story every week or so is more then enough!

You mean left sided individuals support obama.  And since the country has a majority conservative government one would assume they do not support obama.  Obama is one of the worst presidents in the history of the US, he has done nothing but give speeches where people grovel at his feet.

And every country uses torture you just don't hear about it.  This torture was also used on Terror suspects and not regular armed forces from my understanding.  The torture of these terrorists also lead to the capture of Usama bin Laden.  Without Bush and the American system Usama would have never been caught.  I vote against torture on terror suspects is a vote against our freedom.

Honestly, I don't see the point of it and I believe it isn't Canada's place to do anything at this point in time ...

If the United States or a country where the abuses took place was looking to have George W. Bush arrested to face crimes it would be different; but to arrest him because a (often partisan) non-governmental agency wants him arrested is moronic.

And this is why Amnesty International is a fucking joke.

Canada can, in theory, arrest George Bush. America can, in theory, arrest every single person who works for or with Amnesty International as a suspected terrorist under the Patriot Act. Neither of these things is a good idea.

This would completely obliterate American-Canadian relations and America would put all of its might behind getting him freed. The trade agreements would likely be cancelled; America would probably call for sanctions on Canada; the two countries would be on the brink of war.

That an organisation that claims to be peaceful and to support the cause of liberty should recommend such an idiotic course of action is disturbing.

The car belongs to a known senior terrorist and may well contain a dossier with al-Qaeda plans to plant a bomb somewhere in the United States.

Now do you break into the car, when given full authority to do so by your government?

He's a criminal, arrest him and try him in court.

This is MUCH more clearly true than it was when the UK wanted to arrest the Pope.
