In DMC 4 there were no combat stances, but COMBAT STYLES.   Dante could change styles on the fly and was really a bit difficult to master because of all the crazy things he could do.   The great thing about the styles was that they were optional, you could use only 1 style or the 4 and you could still kick A$$.   But in this game (as in Heavenly Sword) the bad thing is that they force you to adopt the stances in order to beat some enemis because if not they are invulnerable; and that is just lame.   If some hits can be blocked then block, there is no need to change stance to block the FUCK!&G blow,   if he is showing his back just hit him, there is no need to change to another stance to deal some damage.     Just as you said Ninja theory doesnt grasp the idea of action games, and their idea of being "strategic" is just really lame, because it frustates the player, because we cant do what we want.   In the end the mechanic in action games isavoid getting hit and hit the enemy hard in the balls lol XD, and not what ninja theory plans to do sadly.

Well, yeah, I do realize that they were STYLES, but even then you could switch the word for "stances" and it doesn't make much of a difference. The point is that Dante's gameplay became centered around a particular type of play when you switched to one and the fact that it was freeform and optional (the player COULD pick a style to center around but it wasn't required) made the depth of it all the more interesting and fun. Ninja Gaiden was similar in that you could pick what weapon you liked and just roll with it with no detriment to the gameplay. It's the failure to grasp something as basic as this that shows that NT doesn't understand why games like DMC 3 and 4 WORKED and were great fun; all it shows is that NT is truly bottom-of-the-barrel when it comes to gameplay

I don't think he was complaining about the "stances" themselves but rather you can't hit enemies unless you're in a certain stance in Heavenly Sword.  In Devil May Cry there were no enemies where you had to be in gunslinger style to hit them, or trickster to hit them, the styles in Devil May Cry 3/4 just let you change your combos.  This is very different, and to be frank having to change stances to hit an enemy in Heavenly Sword really ruined the game.

Well that's what I was talking about; a stance system doesn't work in a game unless it just opens up options instead of doing "do x move against y enemy in order to beat them." That, like you said, just becomes irritating and boring, reducing combat to a tired tedium. NT, despite ALL the complaints lobbed at Heavenly Sword, obviously have not learned from their mistakes, probably because they're too much of egomaniacs to learn from such things. And Antoniades' claims that 30 FPS is somehow BETTER than DMC 60 fps standard just shows how much of a moron he is

Well the game is dead to me, untill it gets back to some real Jap devs. lets be honest NT is not a prooven quality developer. Their first game ( and I say this as a Sony fan) was a failure quality wise IMO. Enslaved was decent, and far superior to HS, but it was nowhere near AAA, and it was a much slower game ( talking about its genre). This looks like a total disgrace for the DMC name, and I doubt they will have enough time or money to do a decent job.

Forget about the 5 million sales Capcom, say hello to 1-2 million TOPS!

blow job???

AKA my new wallpaper.

I doubt I'll play this game because I'm just not into DMC anymore.  With it being developed by Team Ninja Theory (of whom, I'm a fan), I bet all of the moves we saw in the trailer were performed by repeatedly pressing "X".

Yeah sorry for the misunderstanding.    I was complaining about "NT stance/style mechanics" in Heavenly Sword, and how It is really a sad thing that they are implementing them in DmC.

It is nice to see that there are a lot of people thinking alike :) .   And yes they are egomaniacs.....just see how the "new dante" resembles Tateem Antoniades  ¬_¬.

1. Link???

2. Rewind a minute. your saying that you agree with there points. which is about how you cant attack an enemy without a particular stance. i see to remember a certain game called God of War 3 where a lot of enemies cannot be hurt without the use of the Cestus weapon. so i dont understand your saying Heavenly Sword is no good because it forces you to change your weapon/stance when you encounter an enemy that blocks it. does that mean God of War 3 is also trash because it uses the same formula. it dosent make sense, how can different standards exist for 2 games? how can God of War 3 be a 10/10 game for you, yet apply the same formula as Heavenly Sword?

3. why is it DMC fans (fake DMC fans that is) - i dont consider people who like DMC2, 3 or 4 real DMC fans unless they respect the orignal game, from where the series came. (DMC1 is the true DMC game) so why are DMC fans quote things like framerate, yet dont understand what framerate actully is (a few posts back someone thought framerate means speed, i had to explain it has nothing to do with speed).

4. why are so called DMC fans saying things about Ninja Theory without backing them up???

I'm propbably the only one loving this, though I'm pretty biased, as Ninja Theory is one of my favourite developing teams.
I absolutely loved Heavanly Sword and Enslaved, so I'm hoping that DMC is just as good. I'm afraid, though, that they don't have a bright future, as their games don't sell well and gamers seem to hate them. Oh well :(

Actually their first game was some mediocre platformer called Kung-Fu Chaos (though they weren't known as NT back then). Still, goes to show just how average their titles are. Considering the fact that a year later Enslaved only sold two-thirds of what that jerk Antoniades thought it was going to sell in a month, this game will be astoundingly lucky to hit DMC 2 numbers.
