In DMC 4 there were no combat stances, but COMBAT STYLES. Dante could change styles on the fly and was really a bit difficult to master because of all the crazy things he could do. The great thing about the styles was that they were optional, you could use only 1 style or the 4 and you could still kick A$$. But in this game (as in Heavenly Sword) the bad thing is that they force you to adopt the stances in order to beat some enemis because if not they are invulnerable; and that is just lame. If some hits can be blocked then block, there is no need to change stance to block the FUCK!&G blow, if he is showing his back just hit him, there is no need to change to another stance to deal some damage. Just as you said Ninja theory doesnt grasp the idea of action games, and their idea of being "strategic" is just really lame, because it frustates the player, because we cant do what we want. In the end the mechanic in action games isavoid getting hit and hit the enemy hard in the balls lol XD, and not what ninja theory plans to do sadly.

Well, yeah, I do realize that they were STYLES, but even then you could switch the word for "stances" and it doesn't make much of a difference. The point is that Dante's gameplay became centered around a particular type of play when you switched to one and the fact that it was freeform and optional (the player COULD pick a style to center around but it wasn't required) made the depth of it all the more interesting and fun. Ninja Gaiden was similar in that you could pick what weapon you liked and just roll with it with no detriment to the gameplay. It's the failure to grasp something as basic as this that shows that NT doesn't understand why games like DMC 3 and 4 WORKED and were great fun; all it shows is that NT is truly bottom-of-the-barrel when it comes to gameplay
