This looks terribly slow paced. It may just be the video but it looked like the enemies come in much smaller groups in large open areas which isn't terribly exciting from a gameplay perspective. It also seems that the enemies don't do much to attack you either. Air combos don't look like they require much skill either. On the surface it looks okay but so far everything they have shown shows a very large misunderstanding of what made Devil May Cray interesting.

I felt this way about DMC2 and 4, maybe 3. DMC3 was good, DMC2 and 4 i didnt think were. personally i think thats because the developers who worked on the orginal DMC game never worked on any of the sequels. intead they just released Bayonetta, which trumped DMC4 on every single level.

so i dont mind what Capcom are doing, since imo DMC was never that good since Hideki Kamiaya and Shinji Mikami left and took the original team with them. i'm not a huge Capcom fan, but i do trust Ninja Theory. and i think from a gameplay perspective it looks very similar to DMC3 and 4.

i was hoping for more gun/melee/dodging interplay, like DMC1 and Bayonetta, but not much of that for the moment... hopefully that changes.

That is probably the biggest issue with the series. I'm curious as to how DMC 3 managed to be so good despite it. Though the original DMC was good 3 had more than enough content and variety to supplant it for me. Even more so if you include DMC3SE.

I wish I had the faith in Ninja Theory you have...To me it looks like a much slower paced version of DMC3 that requires less skill. It seems like they took too much inspiration from the half rate DMC clone GOW.  I don't wanna lose my tough as nails arcade action because they have a penchant for cinematics and such.

I hope its early and that my reaction is a knee jerk thing but playing a bit of Heavanly Sword I don't have faith that Ninja Theory really know how to do balls to the wall arcade action.  There had better be a Style meter too.  It adds so much to the game to force you constantly vary your offense.  It's omission I feel would be a detriment to the values of the series.

To be honest, i dont think this is the right game for Ninja Theory. personally i would have rather had NT go on to make Enslaved 2 or something else, and Capcom outsource DMC to Platinum Games.

however i'm willing to give them a chance because they have demonstrated they can make good games, okay both those games had their problems. and Capcom is overseeing the game so i dont think the combat will deviate far from what was seen in the other DMC games. a lot of what we saw in this trailer was i think similar to DMCs fast, stylish combat.

i think they have mentioned the style meter will be back, i'm not sure if it will be implemented in exactly the same way. but it seems to me this game will be more about the other things going on outside of combat, like the story, the changing worlds, things like that. so i'm not sure what to think until it comes out. based on what we've seen it looks like you are encouraged to constantly change your method of attack. and we can see mid-combo weapon changes in the trailer to facilitate that. so far it looks like DMC in that sense. and i like this whip device, which seems to make movement from enemy to enemy seemless. unlike the cluncky Devil Bringer (Nero's arm).

based on what we've seen i'm interested in getting it because it looks more interesting than say if Capcom had made DMC5 on their own, about Nero and Krille. and i feel the combat looks pretty good so far, so i'll wait and see.

I thought this is devil may cry not dante's inferno

It IS slower paced, those assclowns fully admitted it was running at 30 FPS; kiss any chances of the combat being as deep, as fast, or as responsive as 3 or 4 good bye. And let's not forget NT's habits of throwing tantrums, blaming other people for their commercial failures, and even just outright insulting fans because their Steven Seagal egos are as fragile as glass. NT is the insecure, hipster douchebag of the games industry and we'll be better off when they finally tank and vanish.

I hate combat stances in games!!! This game is like the spiritual sequel of Heavenly Sword FU%%%%%%%%%KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!! (that is why dante looks like a HOMO, they want him to resemble Nariko lol) Light stance for aerial combat; dark stance (the one with the red axe) for ground combat.....in video it may look nice, but I dont really think it would work well if we play it.

I hate trying to be like an octopus while doing hit-combos...."the enemy is glowing blue change to LIGHT stance, and combo him, now glows red change stance again to DARK stance and continue hitting him; ......now is glowing purple so you must continue pressing L1 and L2, and try to continue hitting the evil dude, while pressing "O" to juggling him in the air with your guns" WTF?!

I said this based on my experience with Heavenly Sword (but at least we can jump now RE LOL). I still think this game should be called different and NOT DMC. For an action it is looking quite interesting, but for a DMC game it just sucks (so far).

CAPCOM is doing this reboot in order to get new users interested on the franchise. In other words they give a crap about what we fans of DMC care about. The funny thing is that by doing so, this game in Japan will sell like CRAP HAHAHAHAHA!!! considering that most Japanese people are Xenophobic, gaming-wise.

Frames per second dosent determine speed of motions. its the amount of images that flash per second. thus 30FPS = 30 frames per second, 60FPS = 60 frames per second. not many developers go up to 60FPS because programming that for consoles is sometimes not possible while maintaining high level textures, polygons, etc. things like that. FPS determines the fedelitity of motions, movement etc, not the speed you see the images that create those motions.

from what i saw in comparing DMC1, 3 and 4 with what we've seen in DmC. DmC's motions appear faster than DMC1, and about the same as DMC3 and 4.

i orginally thought it would be a problem for DmC to run at 30FPS on Unreal Engine. while i'm still not statisfied with Unreal Engine 3. having played Batman Arkham Asylum, we can see a high level of responsiveness in the combat, with a lot of gameplay options. a better example however is Bayonetta (which dosent use Unreal Engine), however Bayo on the PS3 has significant framerate drops and a few other problems. however even running at a lower framerate, Bayo was an extremely responsive game, with an extremely deep combat system, trumping DMC4 on every level.

i think if you do some digging you'll see that Ninja Theory's Tameen Antoniades orginally said how the studio didnt expect Enslaved Oddessey to the West to be a success. (personally i dont think he was being honest, i think they thought it would be successful). Namco Bandai the publisher actully spoke out as to how they thought releasing close to Call of Duty, etc was the reason the title wasnt successful. Ninja Theory themselves didnt blame anyone. they did admit they were dissapointed with the lack of commerical success however.

NT had a moderate success with PS3 exclusive Heavenly Sword, not a bad game by any account, but neither a phenominal game. Antoninades mentioned how they decided to go multiplatform with Enslaved because they actully didnt make much money from HS, and Sony owned the IP, they didnt actully blame anyone for that. instead of take the gold handcuffs and make HS2, NT had the balls to make a new IP instead of developing a sequel (which every developer seems to be banking on these days).

most importantly NT are fearless. any developer who had a successful IP would make a sequel, or as loads of developers are doing, make a shooter, or sandbox, or online and worst of all make a game with motion controls. instead of conforming to these norms NT create games they way they want, which is exactly what this industry needs, rather than another FF, COD, Fifa, GTA, Assassin's Creed, the list is endless.

stating anymore than this would be too much of my own opinion. however, i feel NT wouldve been better off making Enslaved 2 or something else, DmC seems to be dragging them down. the series was going downhill, like Capcom's Resident Evil series (and like many Japanese game series outside of Nintendo), if Capcom wanted sales they shouldve given it to Platinum Games.

Combat stances CAN work in games, but DMC 4 did them SO much better thant Heavenly Sword did. And that was just really to give the player more option instead artificial attempts at "strategy" that shows NT still doesn't grasp the idea of action games. Then again. they obviously HATE being a games developer so I doubt they understand anything about gaming.

In DMC 4 there were no combat stances, but COMBAT STYLES.   Dante could change styles on the fly and was really a bit difficult to master because of all the crazy things he could do.   The great thing about the styles was that they were optional, you could use only 1 style or the 4 and you could still kick A$$.   But in this game (as in Heavenly Sword) the bad thing is that they force you to adopt the stances in order to beat some enemis because if not they are invulnerable; and that is just lame.   If some hits can be blocked then block, there is no need to change stance to block the FUCK!&G blow,   if he is showing his back just hit him, there is no need to change to another stance to deal some damage.     Just as you said Ninja theory doesnt grasp the idea of action games, and their idea of being "strategic" is just really lame, because it frustates the player, because we cant do what we want.   In the end the mechanic in action games isavoid getting hit and hit the enemy hard in the balls lol XD, and not what ninja theory plans to do sadly.
