Forums - Sales - Someone explains this to me : FFXIII outsells Mass Effect 2 by 1'632'195 in the west

I've long since wondered the same thing, how could a universally acclaimed game get beat out by one of the worst excuses for a 'game' I've ever seen? hell, how could XIII sell more than XII?! I mean, 12 was phenomenal in practically every way, but it was confusing to figure out and the license board seemed to turn a lot of people off...but it was one of those "if you got it, it was phenomenal" games.

Like Demons Souls!

But seriously, I really need to get my anti FFXIII rant off my chest sometime, it seems not to matter how much I bitch about it I can never put my hatred into words that properly convey my hatred for that game. (it's twice as bad because I, IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, and XII are all some of my alltime favorite games!)

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

Sorry I liked FFXIII, I spent twice as much time with it as with ME2. The artwork was phenomenal, chapter 11 (or whatever the free roaming part was) made the game.
Yes I liked 12 more, and 9 and 8 and 7. But it was still a good game, and it looked awesome in 1080p

Anyway I enjoyed both and both were not as good as their previous iteration (ME1 / ff12)

For FF13 selling more, it's the first final fantasy on the ps3. ps3 did not have a lot of jrpgs. MS did a ton of marketing for it helping both console versions. ME1 was not on the ps3, ME2 arrived a year late on ps3.

BTW I find FF13 better than Mass Effect 2. The only problem was the slow pace and weak story. And I own both games on the Xbox 360.

You need to add in the fact that ME2 is probably overtracked here on 360.

At the end of March (Week 9 for ME2), we had the game at 1.5 Million on the 360. According to EA, the game did 1.6 Million on 360 and PC combined, including digital sales...

If anyone seriously thinks the game only did 100k in 9 Weeks on PC, they're dumb. We have EMEAA data for it here and after 9 Weeks it was at 85k. So yeah, apparently using VGChartz numbers, Mass Effect 2 sold less than 15k copies total in the entire Americas region, including DD sales.

Oh, and both games piss me off.

Meh that is bullshit, it is just the J-gamers who are in a state of denial, a lot of them complain about those reviewers and at the same time they complain that the new J-games are not the best ones in the franchise...

This is basically what a lot of J-gamers said:

Tekken 6 not the best in the franchise, same for Soul Calibur, Same for Star Ocean the Last Hope,  Same for Beautifull Katamari, same for the latest Silent Hill games, same for Final Fantasy XIII, Same for Dead Or alive 4, Same for Virtua Fighter 5, Same for the latest Ace Combat, Same for devil May Cry 4, Same for the latest Castlevania, Same for the latest Sonic games, Same for Final Fantasy XIV, Same for Ridge Racer, and I could go on but when a reviewer doesn't give a good score to J-game it basically comes down that Western Reviewers are biased.  Their are simply not that many Japanese game franchises that got a sequel this generation that ended up better than his prequels... especially if you wouldn't count Nintendo games...    Without looking it up the only game franchises that improved (and that I remember) are so far Dynasty Warriors 7, Tales franchise (Tales of vesperia) and Metal Gears solid 4 (but that one depends who you ask I guess)

Sure, Japanese developers haven't exactly made the best games in their careers this generation, but a lot of flaws in Western games seem to get deliberately overlooked. When you have games getting high review scores, but also getting patches already upon release, then there's something fishy. This coupled with the fact that the same kind of disappointment can be found among fans of Western games too (like for example, Mass Effect being a step down from KotoR) makes it look like there is a double standard at play within the gaming media.

Your right, you should make a thread about, I'd post in it.

OT: Final Fantasy 13 sucks balls and Mass Effect 2 is the worst RPG I've ever played, but probably one of the better third person shooters with an interactive plot (the shooting part sucks as well). Both of them should have huge chunks of their sales cut off and pasted on to Vanquish or something.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Final Fantasy stopped growing with FF8. FF7 was the peak of the series and it released over 10 Years ago.

Maybe growing wasn't the right word, but it is still a bigger brand the Mass Effect series. Well, pre-FF14 at least

people had high expectations for FF XIII, IMO the game was good but was very different from the other ff games.
