I thought that the 3DS was a fuck up too.

REALLY?

What about all the smoke and shit :), and there were quite a few awesome games announced for it like MGS3D and Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D.

It was crap after launch, they promised something they couldn't deliver, but I thought the reveal was great.

No Nintendo is still trying to appeal to casuals. Seriously Wii 'U'...that's it?! Sounds gimmicky. No new controllers beside the main one, will be using Wii remotes still. are they so lazy to not create new ones?! I see this as failing hard as the GameCube for various reasons.

Its not about laziness and more of why do it if we are only going to pack in the same functionality in the new extra controllers besides the Wii U controller. Why make people buy new ones when they can still use the old Wiimotes? Do you want to buy new controls that do the same thing only to have a new controller that looks slightly different? Isn’t the Wii U controller enough?

OT: Nintendo will always be in this situation and at the same time lead the industry. People were always hitting on the Wii mote but then when their favourite company copied Nintendo they were all over it. Pathetic!

In that case we should be using Gamecube controllers forever, I mean why should Nintendo redesign new ones when we can simply reuse them FOREVER. Well I am saying this really for the market, Wii U is so similiar to the Wii in look that the casual market won't tell a difference besides controller. These are people who don't look at specs, the U doesn't really help say it's a new sytem. Why spend 400 dollars for a tablet like controller? Exactly.

The only reason a controller will get a redesign is when the former is not good enough or does what it is supposed to do. The Wii controller was designed too look like a TV remote to not scare some people away and instead encourage them to use it.

As for Wii U being to similar well it never stopped the PS with adding just a 2 or 3 at the end of the name and not change the controller at all :P

Actually it is not similar at all as it does in fact have a new controller but it allows you to use the old Wii controllers to play on it just like how you could play GC games on your Wii and no one ever complained about that.

Now I agree that it can be confusing as I was when I saw the controller I though it was just an add on to the Wii lol.

Anyway it is all up to the marketing strategy Nintendo will use too make it clear that this is the successor to the Wii

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

It's a great concept with tons of potential (the tablet at least) but was horribly presented. Video games journalists aren't exactly the most intelligent people out there but Nintendo should have conveyed the ideas of the new console better than they did. There's also the current confusion about the possible limits of the tablet controller and logic suggests the device/controller will likely be quite pricey.

Add to that the fact they used PS3/360 footage in the demos reel and it's an unbelievable rookie error (even if it was funny to look at the comments of people saying PS3/360 games look better). Sony got panned for having target render footage of Killzone 2 but actually running/showing games on rival hardware to sell your own product? Overall, it felt a bit last minute and was ultimately a rushed reveal. It may have been better for Nintendo to wait a few extra months (like TGS) when they had some nice new footage and games to show off. We'll get a much better idea of how well the console will work over the next few months but for now, it's not that suprising people are skeptical.

Im actually purposely talking like the people that bashed the 3DS launch... we knew what games were releasing in the first month, and we know of a few more games releasing for the rest of the year. Bashing a system when nothing is really known about it is really sad, and is just a way to calm a few unfortunate people's frustrations for some reason.

Yeah and I cant wait for Zelda and mercenaries.

Cheers!

For you Haters out there with your least selling systems (Ps3 in last [5th place] and Xbox 360 [4th place] and exclusive that barely register on any "REAL" gamer radar.  Nintendo's foot controller (wiifit) out sold all of your (part 2 an 3 to lets shoot at that guy again part 4 games) and you call youselves "Hardcore"  Haaaa!!  Now that Nintodo is offering "HD" for its loyal followers and to entice Dev's to Come on over to the (New over here yet[same over there] shooters and other type like with a different number on them titles.  Haters are like,  "How dare they do HD?!!" Nintodos sell are down some and yet the other HD systems still cant catch up.  Hell!  The slower selling PSP is still ahead of the HD with eclusive systems and they "DONT" even make games that sell at all for that system. Yes, I'm looking forward to playing (part something to the next game I've played already) but "NOW"  I'm looking to try it on Nintendo's New machine too.  I didn't cry "FOUL" when you guys added (forced motion controll) to your systems to try and be like Nintindo.  I was more upset due to the "LACK" like Nintindo selling motion control "FUN" selling games.  [Picture a HOTROD without gas.]  LAME!!  Nice attemp though,  keep trying. You'll get there.  I like/dislike when devs play it safe with estaablished port. I wist they would try something new with the new tech. They can always recoupe some funds by releasing part (fill in the number game) game. Viva Nintendo!!!

So for years we've seen time and time again people proclaim that Nintendo needs an HD console to compete for the "core" gamer.  Articles a plenty on it, forum posts, you've got people that proclaim to be huge Nintendo fans that cast Nintendo away because they didn't deliver experiences of the other consoles and as soon as Zelda HD is shown they'd buy a Nintendo console... Well it's here... and what do we have... new excuses as to why it will fail...

The new point against the console, it won't appeal to people who already own a PS3 or 360, and core gamers with a Wii already own a PS3 or 360.

It really saddens me to see groups act like this, moving the goal posts, cherry picking, and the like.  Not even mentioning exclusives, the fact that the console is more powerful, it flat out has to be to produce two different images, but not only that... there is three really big tech demos running in real time with texture resolution (Tokyo Street and Garden, not Zelda) I've only seen on high end PC titles have.  Then no one even talks about what the WiiU really brings to the table which is something you really can't get anywhere else, the new tablet controller and the new interface.

There's just so many applications it's not even funny.

Hate those squad based games and the retarded AI doesn't follow your commands?  Well use the tablet to give orders, outline the path for them to walk, and where to take cover.

Pokemon snap where you don't have to move the camera on screen anymore just move the controller to look around and *snap* take a picture, need I say more?

Who wouldn't want to see Starcraft II on this thing?

I could go on but it really seems like people forget how much two screens and a touch pad changed handheld gaming.  People just seem as confused and enraged about something they don't understand much like they didn't understand how the DS could change the handheld scene.  Basically it seems to me Nintendo was in a catch 22 situation to begin with for many of these people, damned if you do (make an HD console), damned if you don't (keep it lower spec), and they'll just completely ignore the higher specs and new tech they bring to the table.

tl:dr

Absolutly true. It doesn't matter what they relesase, people talk smack against it. DS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U. There are always people that just love to put Nintendo down. .87 million consoles sold ? Doesn't matter. Glasses free 3D....doesn't matter. HD console with a tablet controller ? Doesn't matter.

It's all about jealousy. Nintendo releases amazing fun games. And they can't handle the fact they can't play them, because if they buy into Nintendo, they will lose their "hard core" stature. I mean...how stupid is that? Going out of your way to post on a thread how much you don't like a console. I admit i never had a MS console and never will...i don't know why, it's just not for me. But i have never put them down...as a matter of fact i have stuck up for them many times. You see...i am a TRUE gamer. I have supported the industry for many years, and i don't bash peoples products just because i don't like it. I am a fan of games and console advancing. I love the idea of Kinect...although i will never own it.

The proof is in the pudding. Nintendo shows a demo of a ps360 game coming to Wii U. And right away these idiots say "not even close to ps360 graphics" because they thought is was an actual Wii U game. These people need to grow up. If you don't like Nintendo thats fine, but get off of the Nintendo threads if your just going to bash. Your not hardcore....your totally softcore.

Just take time to browse the threads and see how many are anti Nintendo.....it is amazing !

Alright, off the high horse, Jesus of gaming. PS3 and 360 fanboys aren't jealous of Nintendo. How many times do you here Halo fans go "damn that nintendo! I wanna play that new kirby game!" These fanboys hate nintendo cause during the Wii's lifetime, they prefered casuals over the more the harcdcore crowd and you can't deny otherwise. Hardcore gamers have always thought  themselves better than casuals, god knows why. Personally, I don't like nintendo because of their lack of varied IPs. All I hear is Mario this, Zelda that, and they have been riding that same boat for the past, like 10 years or more.

Anywho, I don't find the Wii U stupid, just unnecessary and as of yet, i can't see many practical uses for it, other than inventory screens, maps and path finding. I can't see it being much fun, that and I hate tablets.

25 years for Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, 19 years for Kirby

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo would have to go a long long way to get even close to the hate that Kinect receives...

Personally I don't hate what they've shown, it just doesn't interest me in the slightest.
