Happy Anniversary, you games are still great and always bring new ideas to the world of gaming. Innovation is not reserved for yet to be created IPs, innovation transcends that. Understandably you can get sick of a theme, but that does not make the experience fundamentally less unique than the last time around. Add to that the fact that some people like to play the same experience, only refined, and there's an answer for Areym. What are your thoughts on the EA NHL franchise? |
That is true. I guess I'm just not one of those people. Probably while I also don't like Halo, too many halo games for my liking. I don't wanna send the message that I hate nintendo or the franchises, which at this point, are legendary. It's just I wanna see new mascots out of Nintendo. They use to rule during the super NES era. They had tons of different games. It was heaven for me, so many new experiences and now that technology is advancing, making gaming more interactive, I see them throwing the same things over and over and over. I want that super NES variety, that PS2 variety. Those two consoles had a great amount of genres mashed into one console, but if the more devoted Nintendo fans than me are happy then so be it.
ALso, I don't lnow anything about the EA NHL franchise.
Nintendo didn't need HD games for the hardcore gamer...just games..Their was a lot less hate for the DS and that is because it had a lot of games.
Majority of the people that do not like Nintendo's new console are people that already did not like Nintendo. That will never change. Just the same, the majority of the people that immediately flock to Nintendo's new idea are the same people that have been fond of Nintendo for years.
However, I do see the goal post moving done by so many people and yes, it is disturbing. This thread was not about people with legit concerns, this thread was started with hypocrisy in mind.
Someone said they do not want to support the fact that Nintendo has franchises that have been out for so long and demand new IP's but there are people out there that only play Nintendo consoles when the new Zelda or Mario arrives. I am looking at the 3DS right now as a prime example of that, mostly everyone I know waited until this week to get a 3DS because the new Zelda was coming out. Until then, they were content no having a console even though they knew the game would be coming out. Those franchises that people say Nintendo rehashes, are also franchises that some serious gamers want more and more of.
I understand Nintendo cannot please everyone, I know that no matter what Nintendo did, there would be people that would not buy into them, and I get that if your favorite company buys in and does the same thing, that will be ok with you, but when someone makes a topic calling out some of those people, do not try to flip thee argument. If you were one of the people that said, "Until Nintendo moves into this generation graphically, I will not be buying their product..." or something along those lines, then now you have no excuse. But those are some of the same people that have decided that now that Nintendo decided to do just that, they will find something new and not significant (no DVD playback, uses Wii remotes as well... whatever) and not related to their original gripes as, "legit" reasons not to buy the new console.
If you just dislike Nintendo and want nothing to do with their console, the just say that and move on with your life. But at a certain point, you must stand up, and accept that Nintendo is going to try to give the people that complain so much about Wii something to look forward to as well as serving their long time fans.
When Sony and Microsoft started outselling Nintendo, it was due to their consoles having new, "Nintendo-esque" hardware. Instead of seeing the people that bash Nintendo saying, "this is lame, our company is getting tons of casual sales and turning their back on the hardcore gamer..." what I see is a lot of, "about time..." and even some form of pride. Nintendo won this generation no matter which console you own because in thee end, it was Microsoft and Sony that had to adapt to Nintendo and not thee other way around.

1) Yes you have one if the next box as an example is announced and his graphics power are a big step forward compared to the WiiU....If you care only about the grahpics.
2) You are failing horrible, you could say this about X360 but about PS3? I can't remember to see a move game in the top 40 for a very long time..
It's funny to see Nintendo supporters acting like Nintendo has been utterly successful with their consoles (N64, GameCube) and thinking that just because the Wii was an striking success same failure can't or won't happen with the WiiU.
The goal post has changed as result of time changing people expectations and standards. In 2006 people complained of the lack of HD as that was considered the future of video displays. We're in 2011 and HD is now seen as the standard, its no longer a selling point because every device out today is expected to have it. It would be like microsoft bragging that their next devic features a rumble or a dual analoge sticks. On top of that HD is simply a resoultion, a N64 game could be played in HD but it will still look like a N64 game(albeit slightly cleaner/sharper). During the begining of this era people began to use HD as a way to generalise visuals seen on 360/ps3 since they were running in HD and the reason why people still complain about the wii U is because these precise reasons.
The ps3/360 are fairly dated and are starting to show thier age, peoples concerns are that in 3 years from now when sony/micorsoft release their new Hardware, the Wii U will be very outdated if ipowerwise its only midly beyond that of the ps3/360 and it will be in the same posistion the wii is in now. Also you speak of tech demos but they are notoriously misleading and by that nature the Wii tech Demo was failry underwhelming. Until people see live demos or Nintendo boast of its power they are gonna remain sceptical, the fact nintendo shy away from sharing specs only feuled this as that mentality is one which they only adopted once they started producing underpowered hardware. On top of that the first footage they showed happended to be new supermario bros mii which looked like a ps2 title; naturally that made people doubt its power.
This seems to be people main concerns right now and rightly so, if developers wish to make use of more powerfull hardware they will see the Wii U holding them back and possibly withdraw support on their most ambitious projects. This what happened with wii
Also something that nintendo was trying to sell was the fact that this console is gonna have 3rd party support. 3rd party support the 360/-ps3 already benefit from and if your the sort of person who is excited by those experiences i dont see why you wouldnt already have a ps3/360. So part of the question becomes; "am i really gonna spend $300-400 just for this new control and some nintendo exclusives?".
In regards to the control, it definitely has potential again it hasnt quite struck people yet people we've only seen it applied in tech demo experiences which are reminisant of mini-games. The most obvious application is using the screen as a new interface and i think this will be the most common application (it was for the DS) but that isnt enough for some people to purchasing a new console.
To be honest nintendo didnt help the situation as they presented the console horribly. I've only been sold on it on infomation that was revealed by 3rd party sources and the fact that i love some of nintendos IPs (Not every1 loves mario and zelda) and nintendo themselfs raised more question than they answered. I dont think think people are unfair to nintendo, people only bitch about them becuase nintendo gives people something to bitch about. Once the DS reached its stride, hardly any1 talked crap about becuase they were happy with the experience it provided. if nintendo did the same for their new home console the same would apply. I think people have become a bit more septicle of nintendo but only becuase they have been let down in the past.
If nintendo had:
1)announced we have a new console, and then showed the hardware itself.
2)Mentioned that the console will be beyond that of current-gen console but they couldnt yet specify the specs because the hardware is unfinalised. And then finish saying that the hardware is powerfull but keen to keep in at an affordable price.
3) Then reveal the control and show a trailer of the controls potential features. they show either a tech demo or preferably a live playable demo demontrating both the graphics and more of the control unique features in a tradition game experience (zelda, COD, GTA, Oblivion etc not mini games)
4) They should quickly mention that online is a key focus with this new harware but they are unable to delve into any details at this moment.
5) they finsh with a list of 3rd party games that will be available on the systems and any exclusives content.
6)b4 ending they should reafirm that today was about selling a concept and that the system will have its full reveal sometime in 2012.
far less people will be picking a ninty
Graphic has never been my gripe about the Wii, its not important for me. I also dont think most gamers was of the opinion Nintendo specifically needed HD to compete for core gamers. I personally thought it needed totaly different game with different gameplay. With that said, I do understand why people are interested in Wii U, but personally im not. Ill need more then the current annoucement. If you cant understand that some people like me are yet to be interested in the device, you might be doing exactly what you blame others of.
It doesnt really matter anyway, Nintendo is successful like it is, no need to change the formula. They dont mature with their audience and its a good business decision, the family audience proved to be the most lucrative one. Gamers who prefer a gamepad and more serious games can just play on another consoles. I do understand your frustration as a Nintendo fan but I dont think it justify a thread like this, particularly when your a moderator.

1) You are using if's and I do not use if's in that manner. Nintendo has AT LEAST delivered what some people said they wanted and now they are now making new excuses to not getting Nintendo's new console. This hypocrisy is what the topic is about and those people deserve to be called out.
2) I do not understand your point here. I see what you are saying but I do not even know how to address this because I do not know how the game sales relate to my hardware analysis.
