Whether that is shipments or not, I do not know, but surely by now it has sold at leat 5 million of that. I guess dsage believes official numbers supercede vgchartz numbers, which I agree with, unless these are actually shipment numbers. Also, I believe this link included online sales, because this game can be bought on psn. |
So you're including the heavily bundled free download? Even the physical copy was bundled.
It doesn't belong on the list.

I have no idea if that was included in the list(it probably was) but I do know that you can buy the game online through psn.

What the heck? Using numbers more accurate thaan VGC is completely fine, even if you're posting on VGC, but what you're doing is utterly ridiculous. You can't use certain standards for some games and not for others. If you include shipped and online figures for GT5P, you have to do that for all of them, to make it a fair comparison.
Would you think it's fair if I compared GT5's first week sales against GT5P's lifetime sales and said "clearly, GT5P has outsold GT5"? That's more or less what you're doing. Different standards can't be used in a comparison.

GT5 prolgue is probably somewhat close to 5mil with downloads. But there is no way less then 200k copies are out on retailers, especially since very few would buy the game when gt5 came out and prolgue was heavily bundled. I agree with you though
Forza 2/3, Sports Champions, GT5 prologue, and Kinect Adventures should not be included. They only reached or will reach 5mil because of bundles. Other games have been bundled as well obviously, but they would have reached 5mil regardless with the exception of maybe littlebigplanet which is pretty common in bundles and seems like it will barely pass the 5mil mark.
Anyway by december 21st 2012 in my opinion
360 will add gears 3, 2 cods, 1 halo, kinect sports, red dead redemption, GTAV(if it comes out) almost positive.
Maybe will add another assassins creed
Very slight chance to add Elder Scrolls V, random new ip we don't know much about yet.
PS3 will add 2 cods, uncharted 2, red dead redemption, GTAV, FFXIII almost positive
Maybe will add Uncharted 3 (im sure it will pass 5mil but maybe not by the end of 2012), fifa 11, fifa 12
very slight chance to add God of War 3, assassins creed, random new ip we don't know much about yet.
I don't think any other games currently announced for either system have any shot to pass the 5mil mark on just one system without bundles.

It's commonly known and accepted around here actually.
Don't know exactly in which conference/press release Sony or Polyphony said this, but I'm sure someone could help me out.
One link I've found: http://gameolosophy.com/games/gran-turismo-5-prologue-ships-five-million-copies/
Not the biggest site I know, but the original news about the digital sales is much older than that.
Didn't you mean to say by the end of December 31 2011, because its really hard to tell what games released in 2012 have a change to sell over 5 million units since most of the titles that are being released in 2012 still are unannounced. If you include all of next year Forza 4 should easily make the 5 million units list. Also a lot of games sell over 5 million units through the help of bundles; so its no longer as big of a deal as it once was to sell 5 over 5million units. Speaking of bundles Halo 3, Halo Reach, Halo 3:ODST, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Grand Turismo 5 where bundled at some point. Also some of the games that are close to selling over 5 million units where bundled also. So you might as well include all bundled games to the list.

you shouldnt have caved in, it has SOLD 5 million, if it was from retail of download (which was not a free download, it cost money) is irrelevent.
there's nearly ZERO copies of gt5p on shelves, since GT5 is out. so its safe to assume that that shipped number is very very close to sold. so its likely around 5.1 million sold, since its 5.2 million shipped
