This thread is about the books we've all been reading and we openly discuss those books with people of similar interests. I've never been able to get a grasp on how many people on the site actually read on a regular basis, so hopefully this thread can keep chugging along for a while.

Try to hide your spoilers, keep us updated on what you've been reading and try not to talk down on anyone just because they like to read Deltora Quest and you just happen to have read Lolita at some point in your life (mainly because you thought it might have been erotic).

I'll start.

I recently re-read 'The Way of the Shadows' by Brent Weeks. I picked up the book a few years ago and I remember loving, so I've gone back and re-read the whole thing and I can now clearly understand why I love the series. If your new to books and you feel like you'd get bored fairly easily, then the Way of the Shadows is perfect because it's really simple to read while also have some depth to it's characters and plot. The author is also extremely talented at writing action scenes, which the books is filled with and it just keeps the whole ride exciting until the climax.

Just to summarise the plot, it's about a young street rat that messes around with the wrong people, gets his friends hurt and so as a last resort, he becomes the apprentice to most dangerous 'assassin' in the city. The book follows his training and young life, until he gets caught up in political warfare, assassin warfare and has to make a bunch of choices which lead to terrible consequences. The summary I gave is extremely simple, but really, the book has plenty of depth and it doesn't hold back when it comes to gore, rape, murder and the seedy undeground world that assassin lives in. 

It's critically acclaimed, it's a trilogy and it's really cool. Basically, if you want a darker Assassins Creed, mixed with God of War, while also having an interesting plot and chracters, then the book is perfect for you.

I'm also currently reading 'The Black Prism' by Brent Weeks and I've just picked up 'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman.

To be perfectly honest we have had a ton of book threads and none of them ever last more than a week or about 50 posts. Good luck with this one.

OT: I just read Michael Jordan's book Driven From Within and though it was alright, it was more fo an extensive and expensive ad for Brand Jordan than an actual book. Right now I'm reading Gulliver's Travels by Johnathan Swift.

You read the words off the pieces of paper and then turn the page and repeat the same process, but instead you read different words. You then think about the things you've read and hopefully finish the book entertained or at least educated. 

Just to add, just in case anyone wondered (stealth bump), my favourite author is Frank McCourt and my two favourite books are Teacher Man and Angela's Ashes.

He is the greatest author in recent history and he his now dead. One my dreams was to meet him in person one day, but he recently died and now I've shifted my focus to meeting his brother (who is at least a decent author).

Oh my god! These things have a pernicious and possibly Satanic influence! I read the volumes you so kindly suggested and before I even knew what I had done, I'd amputated my pinky finger and made several dozen beautiful bouquets! Can you imagine what might happen if these "book" things fall into the hands of children? We'd best ban them and quick!

Just started this, I think just about everyone on this forum would find it interesting.

I read the Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone. It is about kind eating and living. The book is divided in multiple sections, kind vs nasty foods (meats, dairy and sugars/refined foods), kind living (different levels of diet from a once in a while vegetarian flirt to full on superhero) and recepies.

I have learned so much from this book, from nutrition, to doctors (and pharmaceutical companies), food industry and how bad it is for the planet.

I was already vegetarian in the past (went back to eating meat because of lazyness and inexperience) but this book really gave me that motivation to go on a path towards being vegan.

The recepies look delicious too and don't look like deprivation at all, I hope to try one for dinner tommorow by myself (my husband will be out to say farewell to a work friend - not that he wouldn't eat it but I rather test it myself first). Hopefully it is as good as it looks!

I found it very informative and it was very fun and simple to read (read the whole thing sunday). No scientific gibberish, just things straight to the point that anyone can understand. So I give it thumbs up for the book itself. Now on to chose a recepie to make for tommorow!

Next I want to read the China Study. Maybe re-read the Harry Potter series too.
