Forums - General Discussion - Book Thread: VGChartz gotta start readin'!

Armads said:

Just started this, I think just about everyone on this forum would find it interesting.

It's weird, I've always wanted to read a book about the games industry or just games in general and I can never find a copy in any of my book stores. It's a shame Amazon charges like $25 to deliver to Australia, because I'd love to read the book.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and then when the next book, The Wise Man's Fear, read it too.

The Name of the Wind was easily one of the best books I've read in the last 10 years.

I tried starting a thread about this, but sadly it didn't have much success. Hope you do better, but I sadly think that vgchartz members don't really like to read (other sites, includong video game sites, have threads like this and they're usually very popular).

Anyways, the last book I read was...

The characters are very immoral and wicked, but the book is very fun. Gotta love the Marquise de Merteuil. The ending is too dramatic though, way too much poetic justice.

"I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"

"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."

(The Voice of a Generation and Seece)

"If you cant stand the sound of your own voice than dont become a singer !!!!!"

                                                                               (pizzahut451)

I haven't read a bood in 13 yrs. I hate to read and the last book I read was the time machine in high-school.

i think a certain someone would be offended at the use of the word "assassin" to describe them ;)

"I like my steaks how i like my women.  Bloody and all over my face"

"Its like sex, but with a winner!"

Currently reading Children of Dune By Frank Herbert. A very interesting read, great science fiction though the style in which it is written may be a tad impenetrable to casual readers, with lots of internal monologue and concurrent plot lines.

Still if you are a fan of hard sci fi and haven't read some of the Dune novels I highly recommend you do so, lol.

It's an amazing book. I've been waiting for about four years for The Wise Man's Fear and I intend to pick it up on the release date. Patrick has to be one of best fantasy authors to pop up in recent years, I just hope that his third book doesn't take another four years to release.

I didn't think anyone know what I'm talking about if I called the main character a 'wetboy'. I'm reading the new book by Brent Weeks, different style, but similar tone, you might like it if you enjoyed the Shadows series.

It's hard to explain why the book is so good because just thinking about it, it shouldn't be good.  Patrick Rothfuss is just such a good writer that he makes this over-the-top unbelievable legend of a guy likeable that any other writer would make a complete douche.  Actually, Kvothe can be kind of douche and full of himself but Rothfuss somehow makes him incredibly human and you want to like him and know what happens next.

As soon as I picked that book up I didn't do anything else for about three or four days because I just couldn't put it down.  I cannot stress enough how good of a book that is.

Patrick just has a good hand when it comes to writing witty lines and creating interesting characters. The book is special because nearly all of the chracters have some sort of redeeming quality and his able to make them extremely likable or hated through intelligent writing. The overall lore of the book isn't anything special, but I'll be the first to admit that I love the banter between the characters and the methods Patrick uses to tell the story.

It's like all the major plot elements are just excuses to show off Kvoth's character.
