Read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and then when the next book, The Wise Man's Fear, read it too.

The Name of the Wind was easily one of the best books I've read in the last 10 years.

It's an amazing book. I've been waiting for about four years for The Wise Man's Fear and I intend to pick it up on the release date. Patrick has to be one of best fantasy authors to pop up in recent years, I just hope that his third book doesn't take another four years to release.

It's hard to explain why the book is so good because just thinking about it, it shouldn't be good.  Patrick Rothfuss is just such a good writer that he makes this over-the-top unbelievable legend of a guy likeable that any other writer would make a complete douche.  Actually, Kvothe can be kind of douche and full of himself but Rothfuss somehow makes him incredibly human and you want to like him and know what happens next.

As soon as I picked that book up I didn't do anything else for about three or four days because I just couldn't put it down.  I cannot stress enough how good of a book that is.

Patrick just has a good hand when it comes to writing witty lines and creating interesting characters. The book is special because nearly all of the chracters have some sort of redeeming quality and his able to make them extremely likable or hated through intelligent writing. The overall lore of the book isn't anything special, but I'll be the first to admit that I love the banter between the characters and the methods Patrick uses to tell the story.

It's like all the major plot elements are just excuses to show off Kvoth's character.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.
