Seems like Lady Gaga won her battle.

LOL, it would be so funny if she tried somehow to take credit for it.

She doesn't take credit for it, but I saw her comments on Twitter. She was thanking everyone that found like her this law ridiculous.

She may not being trying to take credit for it... but Harry Reid is trying to give her credit for it!

I saw that the other day...made me laugh. Somehow, I doubt it was Harry Reid making the comment. It was probably some staff member in charge of his twitter feed.

So the liberals get their victory - all towards their ultimate goal of getting gay marriage legalized across the USA. But why stop there?  Why not legalize bestiality too?  That is indeed the road we are on...

The sooner the USA goes bankrupt, the better.  This country deserves to lead no  more.

Beastiality is legal in some states dude... Get with the times.

in a lot of ways i think this is a great thing for progress and gay rights...

..but on the other hand i'm a bit more scared.  i always viewed giving a dude a blow job a viable alternative to getting drafted.

You know, that's exactly why they started allowing gays to join the military in Italy. Lots of people were pretending to be gay to dodge the draft (though there's no mandatory draft in the US, so you won't have such a problem).

There is a mandortory draft in the us.  We just never use it.

Technically at any time guys can be drafted into the military on a successful action of congress to reactivate it.

It's actually rather common for countries to bring in conscription/drafting in times of War.

It was incredibly common during World War 1 and 2.

I would assume allot of countries without conscription/drafting would bring it in during times of great need.
For instance here in Australia we never used to have Conscription, then World War 2 rolled around and it was brought in (Same went for the majority of Western powers), then again abolished in the 1970's.
It's a good fall back if your country is at risk in my opinion, which is the only time it should be used.

But to be honest, if there was a massive war, your country was at risk, you have bullets and bombs landing all around you... The last thing you will worry about is the sexual orientation of the guy that could save your life sitting next to you.

That's exactly why I want gay people in the military, less need for people who don't want to go to go.

Really, if we ever get to the point of where we need consription.. we're gonna be screwed anyway.   With modern weaponry and fighters and tanks and nuclear weapons... footsoldiers are kinda outdated.

We have conscription here in Brazil and it's not like we'd expect to need it more than the USA, to me it's surprising some people are surpirsed by it :P

On-topic, I don't know much about the policy, but I guess it should be done. I can see how this can create some disconfort to both "sides", but if people could get fired for it then it was too much.

I truly feel sorry for you...

Anyway, glad this bill was finally replaced. Dissapointed, or rather, angry (as usual) at Republicans

interesting that so many are looking at this as solely a method to supress and control/belittle the rights of gay men and women in our military.  and now miraculously they are free because of the repeal.

on the contrary, because of the intolerance, hatred, and discomfort that so many still feel around or towards such individuals, I think the don't ask don't tell was a means of protecting them from these attitudes by keeping it quiet.  and from a military standpoint, you need everyones head in the game and on the same page...not distracted by worrying about the guy in next shower stall over..whether its the ignorance of a bigot angry at the gay person, or the gay man or woman knowing the next person over has ill will towards them.  /shrug

i just think that because of the unfortunate amount of intolerance that is still in our society, that its better for all involved to keep things quiet.

i do however agree with a few others comments about our country going down the shitter..as i believe we could very well be in the "final days of rome".  Our society as a whole I believe has lost some of the fundemental values that made us what we are/were.  The family unit is crumbling, respect for other people is nil, patriotism? what's that? our financial stability?  look at how many foreign cars are on the road...where does that money go?  vast majority doesn't stay in the states.  and noone gives a rip

Don't ask and don't tell wasn't protecting gays. It essentially meant that if anyone found out you were gay you'd be thrown out of the military. The don't ask part wasn't sanctioned if it was not respected (never heard of anyone getting thrown out for asking if soeone was gay). It was also discriminatory, as it didn't apply to heterosexuals (no one was ever thrown out for saying they were straight). If anything, the people who feel "intolerance, hatred, and discomfort" towards gays should be thrown out, not the gays themselves.

And drop the apocalyptic scenarios.

"I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"

"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."

That is just sad. Not that they are finally allowed to but the fact that this is even a political case to discuss. Some people still live in the Dark Ages, it seems. Some folks act as if being gay is a crime.
