If they want to serve openly then more power to them, but why would they want to? I agree with the repeal, but my fear is that were going to see more incidents of discrimination pop up. I was in army for a very short time,so I know how some people are. So let me honestly ask the gay member's of vgchartz, why would you want to serve openly in the military and take the chance of getting discriminated against are possibly beat down bye some young punks. I'd hope that would'nt happen, but the military is a rough enviroment. Let me stress again,I have nothing against gay people and there desire to openly serve in the military if they so choose, but I just have concerns of were this is going to lead. I'm just trying to play devil's advacte and have an honest discussion about this.

The thing about DADT was that if it was found out that you're gay you would be discharged. I'm sure not every gay person who wants to join the US military will go aroung broadcasting that they're gay, but it will probably be nice to know that they don't have to worry about being discharged if theyre sexual orientation is discovered.

Also, the people who would give gays a hard time are the problem, not the gays themselves. They should be the ones who are thrown out.

I agree, but would the military throw them out,are would they still have that good ol' boys mentality, that's really hard to say,now I whole heartedly agree with gay people now not having to worry about being discharged if they're sexual orientation is disocovered, that in it's self was nothing but pure discrimination,so yea I agree with the repeal, but I still have some concerns about. It might seem like I'm hating, but I'm really not.

Because they're proud of who they are? The way to end discrimination isn't to hide, it's to stand up.

@Kasz. And in the Greek military of the era (especially I think the Spartans?) it was also very common for there to be soldier lovers. They weren't gay as such from what I've read - they had wives and children back home - it was just considered not to be unusual for them to have a lover amongst the other soldiers while on campaign.

Read my other post in this thread,I'm not hating and have stated that I agree with this repeal, but still have some concerns about it.

Don't worry, it doesn't seem like you're hating. The homophobic soldiers will just have to deal with it or stay in school and get normal jobs like all the regular homophobes.

Don't worry, I think you've done a good job of making that pretty clear.

To paraphrase The Onion, gays are too precious to allow to be killed in a war. We must protect them.

It's about time!  The USA is decades late on many civil rights and it's about time we stop losing good soldiers to what they do in the private life.

Now to Repeal the Un-Constitutional DOMA...

Zappykins

PS and Excert from Plato's Symposium on why couples make the best fighters: "...army should be made up of lovers and their loves, they would be the very best governors of their own city, abstaining from all dishonour, and emulating one another in honour; and when fighting at each other's side, although a mere handful, they would overcome the world."

(Cause you are going to fight the hartest to protect the one your love - espically if they are fighting right next to you.  And a small fierce army can take over the world.)

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

hmm, not good considering this is my career path which I care deeply about.

Your career path is to be a homophobic soldier?

I'm glad this finally got through, the situation as it was made no sense.

A very homophobic soldier, sir.

And if you couldn't tell that was sarcasm, turn down the self superiority and read a book about "manners" and such.

Are you afraid you're going to be stuck in the trenches with a gay soldier asking you how he looks in his outfit or something?

"Homosexuality is God's gift of ensuring that the truly gifted are not burdened with Children". - Quote from some random place on the internet that I cannot remember.

Glad this came through though, several countries allow homosexuals to serve in the Military,  and they haven't collapsed. (Nor do you see men in uniform with excessive amounts of pink either.)

Everyone bleeds the same colour of blood, time for everyone to be treated equal and stop discrimination (Which is exactly what this was.)
First we had discrimination against Women, then those who are of different Race, and now those who have different sexual preferences. - And they all had something in common... They were born that way.

There are remarkably few environments where pink camouflage is the best, maybe a sniper amongst the flamingos? =P

Maybe if he's hiding in a field of pink flowers.

OT: Great news, and about time.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I'll do that if you stop believing that gays should be discriminated against, deal?

Yep, I actually thought that's who he was talking about when he mentioned gay soldiers. The Spartans were among the best soldiers in the anchient world but were raised to be soldiers from a young age and they spent majority of their time with other men. It was weird if they didn't have a male lover in fact.

Sparta was pretty forward thinking for the anchient world actually as the women had a far more active and powerful role in life as merchants and finances compared to other Greek provinces.

Didn't even know about the Egyptians. Have to look that one up.
