I don't get the "Households have more than one DS" argument.

It sell because people like me play it and like the games.

It's not a law that citizens have to buy it.

So it sells because people like it

Many people bought 2, 3,4, even 5 PS2s, and before DS, no handheld sold close to those numbers, actually, apart from Nintendo brands (and PSP) handhelds have been pretty much dead.

@Carl, knowing the DS, the "9 million gap" will be reduced to 2 million by end of 2010

That doesn't take away from DS sales, but the it's never going to be the best selling gaming console because it isn't a console...

So when I hook up my 360 to a monitor instead, it's no longer a console?

Actually is possible to plug the DS in 2 televisions or 2 monitors =P

The DS isn't gonna just stop selling due to the 3DS being released.  It didn't happen with the GBC when the GBA was announed or the GBA when the DS was announced.  Sony can release the PS2 on Mars as well if it wants to, the DS is going to grab the lead and keep it.  It's inevitable, but feel free to reach as far as you can.

GBA sold about 23M afterDS was released so DS could do another 30M after 3DS is out meaning LT sales for DS could be close to 180M LT.  If sony released PS2 on mars, who's going to buy it, marchants?

DS is not a console, its a handheld. PS2 is still the best selling console. And lets not forget that PS2 EMMEA numbers are largely incomplete.

Who cares about that? Even if DS would sell 300m, it would not make it any better.
