Forums - Gaming - So ..... do you guys still trust IGN?

I haven't really read any online reviews in depth for a couple of years now, Gamespot and IGN were the two main ones I used. And then they started handing out superb scores to games I found to be shit (like Crysis and World at War) so I don't think they can help me any longer in deciding the quality of a game. They have also score a lot of games that I personally loved, very low.

Eurogamer and Edge as well as two domestic outlets (Pressfire and Gamer.no) are basically the only ones I check now and then, mostly to see what scores PSN games get and read general gaming news though.

Yeah. Although they put out some questionable reviews (I would have put Fable 3 at 8.0, not 8.5, and ToV at 9 easy) they still have the most consistently good reviews of most any gaming site out there.

EDGE is also pretty good. I like 1ups reviews, though not as well.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I trusted IGN with my girlfriend, years ago.  Now my daughter is showing signs of questionable taste ingames.  She makes conflicting "top 100" lists, too.  I no longer trust IGN.

i've never really been into the review thing, most of the games i enjoyed this year have terrible scores, like Sengoku Basara 3 , this game is great fun when i'm playing it with a friend, Front Mission has a great storyline and the campaign is quite fun, that Red Dead Redemption DLC is a compelete joke, its easy, its uninteresting, and it has zombies which is even easier to shoot than the already easy AI in RDR, plus the missions and storyline is supposed to be fun which they're are until you find yourself repeating the same thing over and over they're also supposed to be funny, but laughing is the last thing that came to my mind, the first thing is that i saw is how ufunny and old the whole "Zomg gross!" jokes became.

I havent trusted any of the review sites in along time. If I am iffy about a game I ask people on here and even that does not always work because no one has the same taste as you. At least when you do it on here you get more than 1 persons OPINION. Review sites have put many false things in about games on their reviews. Not to mention you can watch the same reviewer knock on one game for somethign and praise another game for the exact same thing. It is very sad how bad they have become over the years.

can you explain how anything they do is "Good" ? , i'm not talking about scores i'm talking about the reviews in general.

Its a bunch a different reviewers. So it depends on that.

I'll wait for a skyward sword 8.0 review to bash IGN.

When they score below 9.5 a long waited, hyped and delayed game, I tend to turn on the whining machine. Then I realize that life goes on.

after the video between the comparing of the move vs. kinect i dont care about them and i dont take anything they say seriously

i only go on IGN for games releases and updated information on games, could care less about their reviews or the thoughts on games

FINALLY IGN NEEDS TO LEARN TO GET OFF XBOX'S DICK

As for all reviewing system it's not so accurate because you are likely to have different taste than the reviewer.

This console war is pretty bad because people compare and only care about the score as boys compare their dicks and don't care about playing and get fun with games. But that's the more important, have fun with your game!

Me for example, i really enjoy NSMB Wii and it have a score much lower than SMG2 (that i found more SMG1.5 - but maybe because i am just at teh beginning). I am mad about the rating? No because i have some fun with it.

As some people already say here, actually it's more easy to have fun with average game from which we don't expected too much (as NMH) than the overhype game that we are waiting and adulate (even without playing it) as the  2nd coming of the christ. For example that's what the back fire about GT5 is about, the game is surely a great racer, but it was so awaiting and describe as the "perfect" game that he get bash for all it's little flaws.

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.
