Handheld vs home console? Can I add PC as a system also? :)

The PS2 has outsold every single handheld up to this point in time, and the DS will be the first system - period - to ever surpass it. That is is a handheld does not take away from that fact. After all, the PS2 beating the Game Boy was treated as a big deal in sales circles at the time.

PS2 has been released to new territories that VGC does not track.. may I remind you the PS2 outsold the 360 last fiscal world wide..

PS2 is still selling and will likely push through 150M, DS has gone down in sales, but it is still the best selling video game platform right now, so if the 3DS doesn't affect it's sales at all it will likely surpass the PS2 by 2011

The DS is a dedicated gaming device just as much as the PS2 is. But yeah PS2 will still be the best selling console for some time.

But i didn't know the 3DS was only launching in Japan this year, so then the DS will outsell PS2 for sure.

Way to go out on a limb there champ. Let me make another outrageous prediction. Wii will outsell the PSX.

Yes it will. The DS is gonna get a price cut in japan soon, that shuld give it a small boost. Then, when 3DS comes out, it will also get a price cut in Europe and America, with this holiday season (which im guessing will still be big in the West) and probably the next one.... it should top it.

Plus is not like the DS will suddenly stop selling. It will continue to sell at a good pace even if the 3DS gets release

So has DS though... VGC has basically no coverage into Asia outside Japan afaik, and DS has been rather successful in Korea and even gotten an official iQue release in China (which isn't even reflected in Nintendo's own DS numbers).

And based on their current sales, DS will pass PS2 sometime this fall.  When 2011 hits it will be well past PS2.

Yep. The only thing that will slow down the DS is......the 3DS.

The ds is going to surpass it in my opinion.
