Now that ME2 has settled around a 96 on meta, do you think it will be GOTY?

Definitely 70 23.89%

Maybe 140 47.78%

Unsure 21 7.17%

Not likely 45 15.36%

No, thats impossible 17 5.80%

Total:293

Mass Effect 2 has got nothing but stunning reviews, has gotten a 96 on Metacritic, and 95.68% on Gamerankings, and there seems to be very few legit reviews under a 9.

What are your thoughts about Mass Effects chance to be GOTY for most publishers?

As for me I personally believe the only games that might have even a slight chance to outdo Mass Effect 2 are God of War 3, and Halo: Reach

Maybe. We should have this conversation when, you know, more than 5 games have been released this year.

i only have a ps3 but it looks like a stellar game. it will have a challenge to out do god of war , halo reach , final fantasy and some of the other great hits of 2010

In The End , There Will Be Only Chaos

Im pretty sure it will be GOTY. Even Halo 3 only got a 93 so i think a 96 for halo reach is a bit high. As for GOWIII im doubtful it will get better than a 96. But thats just my opinion when compared to each game's predecessors.

Long Live SHIO!

Depends how good Quantum Theory turns out...

we know what coming... what has a chance of beating it?  only a handful of games at the most.

Do you really think the market is that predictable and boring? I don't think anyone would have thought Arkham Asylum would be a GOTY contender back in early 2009, but it ended up being a spectacular game and a major contender. Just wait.

Probably, but its way early in the year to even be absolute sure about such a thing. Especially since we have a lot of other great releases coming out later in the year.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

Well it has a really good chance, although there are a few things that could challenge it.

Metacritic GotY is almost certain unless it drops another point.

Games i think that will challenge it -

Halo Reach
God of War 3
Gran Turismo 5 (On Meta Also)
The Last Guardian
Zelda Wii
Super Mario Galaxy 2

Again I say no. I only say no because it was launched so early. People will be focusing on games launched in the Fall 2010 period for GotY awards.

We know part of what's coming, and we don't know how good the games that are coming will be.

Halo: Reach, Splinter Cell: Conviction, God of War 3, The Last Guardian, Super Mario Galaxy 2, possibly a new Wii Zelda, and who knows what else could make a surprise release.  It's been 2 years since Gears of War 2, so maybe Gears of War 3?  Or something new from Epic Games?  What about what Insomniac is doing?  Most signs point to Resistance 3, and who knows, maybe it'll be amazing.  Resistance 1 and 2 were pretty different from each other, so I could see them going back to the drawing board for number 3.  Oh, and Fable 3 too, with Natal integration.  How about Alan Wake?

I'm not saying that all those games will be amazing, or even good.  But we hardly know anything about what will be released, and how good the games will be.  We still have ~320 days left in the year.  Mass Effect 2 will definitely be in the running for GOTY, and be a strong contender for GOTY, but I think it's a bit premature to say that it's the definite GOTY.

EDIT:  What about Fallout 3: New Vegas?  Or how about Alpha Protocol?  Both are from Obsidian.  While Obsidian has mostly ridden on the coattrails of other companies (mostly Bioware with KOTOR2, Neverwinter Nights 2), who knows what they can do if given free reign over a new IP (Alpha Protocol).  There are probably tons of other games that could be potential GOTY contenders/winners.
