Read the title and tell me: Is this an assertion to an objective circumstance, or is this a remark regarding one’s own personal taste? That is to say, is the remark stating that the line-up of [insert your favorite game dev studio] is objectively weak/strong, or that their offerings don’t/do cater to what they would pick up and play? And what are your thoughts on such comments?

For me, it is comments such as these that have always irked me. As a Nintendo gamer, though it hasn’t been as bad in recent times, there are many who will say something like “yeah Nintendo’s line up of Switch 2 exclusives has been very poor so far” while in the same breath claim that “Capcom has been on fire recently!”, despite the latter pumping out a fraction of what Nintendo (and even Sony) has done these past couple of years.

Nearly everything in life is subjective. Gaming is no different.

Everyone can only say what directly affects them.

Depends on the context of the converesation been had. If we talk about some parameter that can be measured then we can lead the conversation to a more objective direction. Like, if we talk sales, we can say a lineup is strong or weak regardless of personal taste, because its all about numbers. 

But generally id say people talk about this topic when it comes to the games they are interested in, so in that context it is subjective, and for that very reason it shouldnt irk you at all. Fans of Capcom feel theyve been knocking it out of the park for a number of years now, cause regardless of the number of games been released the quality has been great and the few times it hasnt it Capcom has course-corrected accordingly. Those are good consumer-friendly practices and we should take notice of that, but if Capcom games dont interest you then just move along. Similarly, If Nintendo's exclusives atm dont interest someone else, then yes, in their eyes the lineup might come off as weak, even if maybe to you its the best theyve had in 20 years.
