Forums - Nintendo - The potential of Ocarina of Time Remake saleswise

I've been seeing a lot of posts lately on Instagram where people are comparing Oot do Gta 6, as if they are the two juggernaut of the year, battling it out for dominance and what not.

This doesn't make to much sense to me as gta 6 is a totally diferent beast to Zelda saleswise, right? As a long time lurker on this site, I thought I should ask the vgchartz community about this.

What are we thinking about in therms of sales when it comes to OOT remake? This is not a prediction thread, since we don't even have a realease date yet. I'm talking more about ballpark estimates.

Are we talking about the original game on n64, where it sold over 7m, or something massive like the next breath of the wild?

Around the Network

If Ocarina 3D could sell over 6M, I easily see this topping 10M. I’ve cited this stat a few times already across the forum, but if you look at the Twitter engagement on Nintendo’s announcement post, it’s putting games like Smash Ultimate and Tears of the Kingdom to shame despite not having a cult following on Twitter (unlike something like Tomodachi).

Also, as far as testimonial is concerned, FWIW all of my millennial siblings who skipped NS1 have actually just purchased an NS2 in response to hear this Ocarina of Time remake (in addition to the time pressure of the impending price hikes). And they all are really big on GTAVI.

I think this game does have a lot of potential to sell very well, even if not a new and original mainline. I mean, just look at how well Spyro Reignited and Crazy N’Sane performed.

If there’s any game that could compete with GTAVI, it’s a wholly original reimagining/remake of Ocarina of Time.

For me, the last two main Zelda games only sold very well because of their sandbox approach full of possibilities.
I think Ocarina of Time will only surpass 20 million if they drastically change the structure or if people buy it thinking it's something else because of the marketing. This competition with GTA created on Twitter doesn't make sense,at least here in South America, GTA is 10 times more popular than Zelda, especially among young people.
