I’ve cited this stat a few times already across the forum, but if you look at the Twitter engagement on Nintendo’s announcement post, it’s putting games like Smash Ultimate and Tears of the Kingdom to shame despite not having a cult following on Twitter (unlike something like Tomodachi). If there’s any game that could compete with GTAVI, it’s a wholly original reimagining/remake of Ocarina of Time. |
I've seen the same happening among my own inner circle as well. Oot remake is the first real "must have" system seller on the console.
It's a interesting phenomenon how casual fans are so eager to compare this title to gta 6 of all games. That game is probably selling over 100m copies at least. That's a good sign if anything.

I agree, both botw style of games had a massive appeal among gamers thanks to it's sandbox style of gameplay. It brought a huge influx of new fans to the series.
Oot Remake in comparison is a more "niche" game aimed to exiting Zelda/Nintendo fans.
But still, Ocarina of Time has been know as the best rated game on metacritic for decades at this point. I can see a bunch o people buying this title just to see what's all the fuss is about
