Forums - Sales - Five reasons why I'm not bothered by Sony's PS5 hardware and software prices

Tagged games:

I'm sure you keep hearing a lot how the PS5 is expensive and how it actually get price increases instead of price drops. And maybe you are thinking, does the PS5 gets doomed as far as Sony was in the PS3 days? No, it's not. Despite the stupidity currently in the gaming space, the most pessimistic sales estimations for the PS5 still put it well ahead of the PS3, and close to the PS4.

For a oranges to oranges comparison, I'll use full prices and the country I'll choose will be Brazil. If I'm not bothered as the title says, I can only use Brazil.

PS3 (2006): console R$ 6000 + game R$ 250

PS4 (2013): console R$ 4000 + game R$ 200

PS5 (2020): console R$ 5000 + game R$ 350

Now the five reasons:

1. Inflation - Inflation in Brazil is crazy, nearly 75% from 2013 to 2020, while the launch price of the PS5 is 25% higher than that of the PS4, and 17% smaller than the PS3.

Game prices howerer did get the near 75% price increase compared to the PS4 games. Following inflation, but are still under the inflation adjusted prices from the PS3 era games.

Doesn't matter if people salary and wages doesn't actually keep up with official inflation.

2. PS5 is more powerful than the PS4 in their time of release - The PS5 is clearly leagues above the PS4 compared to the current tech of their launch times.

I'm getting a powerful gaming machine, I would be crazy to complain about its price.

3. Playstation games go on sales constantly - I can count on one hand the times I payed the actual asked full price for a Playstation game around here, I can get PS5 games in the 150 to 200 ballpark instead of 350 in a matter of months, 250 to 270 for a game on launch day even, so the actual price being paid is far less than what it appears.

If the official price was lower I could get even better deals, but as I can get deals it's ok.

4. I love quality - Sony games offer me a lot of high quality spent time, they very often run for or win several GOTY awards and I still can get them for a lot cheaper in a reasonable time.

I wish other people would just suck up and pay a lot of those games because they are good.

5. I'm not young anymore - when I was young games could cost as much as nearly the minimum wage around here.

Doesn't matter in the PS4 and PS5 days I could/can get a full priced game for much, much cheaper in comparison to in the 90s, I can't complain about it at all!

Actually I lied, why not huh? Let me give it an extra reason that is just common sense:

Most people already gor a PS5, so it doesn't matter, duh. Let them pay more.

To make the thread more fun, I'll leave you with a phrase so you can think about it:

When reality perfectly mimics parody, you know there is something wrong about that.

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

Agreed, now let's see the hypocrites bash Sony but defend Nintendo in Rols thread.

Edit: You should also post how much Sonic Transformed is so much better than any Mario Kart game and let's see if Rol calls you a Sonic fanboy.

Dont worry, bro. By tomorrow everyone wont give two shits about that increase and will keep their daily bashing on Nintendo. This little discontentment on Sony is just part of the check-list to keep their unbiased mascarede

Or get a second job.

Sony knows they can raise the price because unlike Nintendo, PS sales never fluctuate, the same people will always buy the next PS console, Nintendo on the other hand actually fluctuates greatly from one generation to the next when it comes to console sales, showing that ''Nintendo fanboys'' doesn't really exist, while PS is built on having the biggest fanboys that has ever existed in gaming.

I think it's great to see how Sony and Nintendo are supporting eachother. Sony showed Nintendo there is a market for 500 euro consoles and payed upgrades. Also Don't took iniative by raising prices during the gen. Something Nintendo can also use down the line.

Nintendo is helping Sony to sell their games at € 80 and asking a msrp premium for physical media. Nintendo is also trying uncharted waters by asking for a fee for better framerates and resolution on old gen games on the new much more powerful system. This is something that is easily patchable. They are kindly showing that boost mode is wasting moneymaking potential.

Console peace is much better than console wars, except for your wallet.

That's only if you see the home consoles and the handhelds as entirely separate platforms. In the past either the handheld or the console did well. In the GameCube and Wii U era the handhelds did really well. Although the heights of the Wii era will most likely never be repeated.
