Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Staring into the abyss of a world where Nintendo has no games scheduled for release. Edit: The Time of Darkness Has Arrived

Don't forget Xenoblade Chronicles Remaster, which is probably a Spring title, though perhaps a Summer title due to coronavirus.

I shouldn't speak too soon, but it's a remaster/remake of a game with it's 10th Japanese Anniversary being this year, and that anniversary is in June, which is also around the time they usually have their E3 stream, AND when they start to launch mid-sized/bigger games (Mario Maker, Mario Tennis Aces,  etc).

I don't think it was ever really a spring title, though I could be wrong.

It's fine by me, as I intend on playing the upcoming Animal Crossing and Trials of Mana quite a bit - plus I still have a ton of games to catch up on (both for Switch and XBox One). Though obviously I know this isn't the case for everyone.

There are always interesting looking indies being released at least, which can help fill in the gaps. I've ended up reviewing a lot on indies, many of which I had never even heard of, which turned out to be some my favorite games for Switch.

When it comes to treating their fans like crap, nobody does it quite like Nintendo.

You want release dates? Something to look forward to? You want actual new games on your new console? Fuck you.

I swear they get off on depriving people of what they want.

Its time for someone to chill.

We were told to expect 2 Nintendo Directs this month. An indie focused ND before Animal Crossing released and a major retail ND focused ND a week after. The Nindie Direct happened yesterday. Patience, fellas.

We were also told to expect 2 Directs in Feb, that didn't happen.

It's hard to maintain patience when months and months pass with no significant announcements, and no major release dates to look forward to if you're not into Animal Crossing. I think people have a right to be worried and frustrated. This tendency they have to starve their fans of information is a poor way to treat loyal paying customers.

I mean, i'm fairly sure we're going to get a direct next week or sometime this month after that Nindie prediction, but regardless you kind of indirectly pointed out something that I think needs to be brought up. When people say "we were told to expect 2 Nintendo Directs this month", what they really mean is, the leaker community which at best has a 50/50 record on being correct (and that's even too high) told us to maybe possibly get a direct this one, then another one after that. But don't worry, if they're wrong it's just the sources fault, not theirs!

I don't want Nintendo to announce directs long in advance, I like the style they go for as is, but I also don't think ambiguous direct statements from third party sources should be used to reassure people, either. It's ridiculous. I never would have in my life guessed that a general direct for the Switch would land in late March, yet here we are. At some point, accepting rumors because of conventional wisdom just totally fails, and even when rumors make sense they are often wrong.

Bottom line: Rumors are not a counter-argument against concerns about lack of information. In fact, they kind of prove the concern further!

Exactly, people treat the rumor of a general direct next week as though it's confirmed when the rumor-mongers also told us we'd get one in Feb.

We've been told "just be patient, it's coming soon" for months now, with nothing to show for it. You can't expect people to wait and suffer forever without losing patience.

I think some of the unannounced games’ release dates or windows might’ve changed due to the virus. Analysts mentioned that upcoming titles for 2020 might get affected because of all this.

The Outer Worlds port was delayed due to Virtuos Games, a Chinese developer that is developing the port, had to hold off in order to protect its staff. This was back in early February.

I can see that Nintendo’s devs that were planning to release games this year had to be aware of the virus building up as it transitioned from China to other parts of Asia, especially Japan.

Hell, Sakurai just said in his latest column (which is written bi-weekly so there’s a timing in all of this) that he had to hold off giving presentations to developers involved in Fighter Pass Vol. 2. So basically there may be a delay in releasing one or some of the fighters in the upcoming pass. Maybe not the first fighter but likely the other 5 fighters.

*For the record, I mean that the first non-game specific nintendo-oriented direct would land in March. I'm sure I'm going to get replies talking about how there was a March Direct in 2018 (although even that was early March).

1). The Feb rumor had 2 parts.  An Animal Crossing direct and a Spring/Summer retail direct.  We got the Animal Crossing direct.  So, yes, one did happen.

2). The new rumor also had 2 parts...an indie direct before Animal Crossing and a retail direct after Animal Crossing.   The Nindie Direct was spot on.

What probably happened is the Feb retail direct got moved to March to either give Animal Crossing the limelight, add more titles or had to reschedule some Nintendo of America portions because of the virus.  Want another possible reason? Their fiscal year ends on March 31st.  What a great way to wrap up the fiscal year by holding a direct about all the games coming in the next fiscal year.

They are only starving you of a specific release date. You still know several of the games that are coming.  Do you honestly think they are waiting until 2022 to release them?  Of course you don't.  So ignore the pessimism and fantastical realities of a completely empty release schedule and consider more the whole picture.

But the AC direct in Feb didn't lead to a general one later, so the indie presentation this month similarly doesn't confirm a general one is coming next week.

I'd love to believe one is coming next week, but after months of constant disappointment, I can't bring myself to get my hopes up only to be crushed yet again.

And I actually would not be surprised if games like Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, or BOTW2 don't come out til 2022 at this point, the first two feel like basically vaporware at this point and BOTW1 was supposed to be a 2015 game.
