Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Anyone else feel that Nintendo has next gen locked up?

Who do you predict will win next gen?

Nintendo 276 50.09%

Sony 130 23.59%

Microsoft 86 15.61%

Apple 23 4.17%

Sega 36 6.53%

Total:551

I was calling for Nintendo return to domination back before the Revolution was released and I was right http://www.dailytoreador.com/archives/article_d160d55c-67b9-56c8-9cab-9b1a24132d5b.html .  I am feeling that Nintendo will be the sales leader next gen in both home and hand held consoles.  Anyone else feeling this?  I'll expand this op more later with my reasons but I'm feeling the tablet craze will be the main cause for success for the Wii U.  Many other factors to include also like they are releasing first (doesn't always matter but helped Microsoft decently this gen), strong first party support, seems like 3rd party might jump on, decent consumer price point (Nintendo will not price their system out of the pocket book of most consumers), etc...

Edit - Changed my mind about making the op better.  If you care to add whatever you think might set Nintendo up for success or failure then please go ahead.

Handheld yes. One game changed everything in Japan, and COD probably won't change much in the US. So it's pretty much locked.

Consoles... impossible to tell, but Wii U has a lot of potential.

I have more confidence in the Wii U than I did for the Wii.  However, that was because Nintendo was at a low point in the home console market.  Pretty much you can't fuck with Nintendo in the hand held market.  Props to Sony for trying and creating their own user base.  Competition is always good (unless they work together to set prices).

It doesn't look all that great for Nintendo with the disservice they have done to the Wii and thus their audience. However, this doesn't mean that Microsoft and Sony can't mess up. I have to reserve judgment until the others show off what they are planning to do next generation.

If the tablet craze is the central point of your reasoning, then I'll suggest you seriously cut down on your consumption of weed.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Hey, that was a semi major point but I just expanded my op to the debate level of a 16 year old.  You should check out my new points.  Besides Nintendo wrecked shop this gen with a budget console and a "gimmick".

Nope.

Consoles will be dominated by Microsoft.

Handhelds will be DOMINATED by Apple.

Ah shit I forgot Apple was in the hand held market.

The Wii was neither a budget console or a gimmick, so some superficial similarities you might see don't mean anything. Releasing first certainly won't hurt, I'll give you that.

First party support will be the most crucial part and after what happened to the 3DS, you can't really call it a safe bet for the Wii U. Nintendo is a company that tends to sabotage themselves, so until games are actually shown off, you can't really say for sure which way they will go.

Even if Nintendo gets parity on third party support, one thing won't change in the future: The Nintendo system must sell on the merits of first party software.

I just threw the word gimmick in there as Sony PR but I really do believe the Wii was a budget console (consumer friendly price, under 300 at launch).  The only system that Nintendo has released that was overpriced would probably be the 3DS.  I can't think of any other system that they released for hand held or home console that didn't have a decent consumer price point.  I suppose you can throw the Virtual Boy in too expensive but that was more of a lack of failure of the system than the price.  If Nintendo prices their system over 300 then I'll worry.  If it is 300 or under then that is a perfect price point for a new home console system these days.
