Forums - Gaming Discussion - The 10th Annual Greatest Games Event - Discussion Thread

Well it finally happened. One of the SNES classics has been bumped off my list. Indie games continue to improve to the point where a game made in the early 90's just doesn't look or play as good anymore. At least not when compared to what the best of the best Indie devs have been doing the last couple years. A good example of this is how Hollow Knight absolutely blew away all previous Metroidvania games. (Don't worry, Super Metroid is safe on my list.)

Monster Hunter has always been a unique series, well deserving of a spot on this list. The simple formula of hunt monsters to make better gear to hunt stronger monsters to make better gear works well. The Monster Hunter series is one of the best PvE experiences I've encountered over the years. The variety of weapons, and playstyles gives the game great replay value. World took a lot of the clunkyness out of the series. Loading screens between areas are gone. Using items is smooth and effortless. Scoutflies help you get right to your objective quickly. You can now talk to people without needing a keyboard. The only downside to MHW is that it is a bit grindy in the post game. I haven't played Iceborne yet, so this game will likely move farther up on the list, next year.

#49: This sports game features a half-time show that doesn't actually happen in reality. Maybe it does on American Colleges, but I don't know.

I think this is Soccer for the NES. At least that's probably what it's called. I remember how weird it was seeing cheerleaders come out at half time, surely it should be oranges, right?

Yes! Soccer is right. Beside the cheerleading I as a European also object to the name but okay. And also, you can’t pick Netherlands as a team. Why is this on my list anyway...

I probably should drop a hint for the next game.
