I think they deserve it. People give this game shit unnecessarily. It puts a new spin on the BR mode with the whole building mechanic which makes for some pretty insane battles.

You say it as if it's an objective fact, that it's "objectively" wrong, when in reality it is subjective. The game selling as much as it has via MT's is an actual fact.

It being a F2P game that's making billions from MT's has and will continue to set a few bad examples. If it's better to make billions than a full proper game without MT's, then simply replace every game known to man with that model and see how well that flies with the entire industry. if not, then you'll know what kind of examples such a model sets.

Is that the number of people who play it regularly, or the total number of downloads.

Registered users. Here a bit more differentiation of the numbers:

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-11-27-fortnite-passes-200m-registered-users

So 200M registered users, more than 8M playing at the same time and 78M playing over the course of a month.

The surprise smash hit of last year just keeps getting bigger. It's taking over the BR market and it ain't slowing down

Yeah, in difference to PUBG the des at Epic are hard at work to put it on every platform available. In these day and age it is something I would generally apply, make your games multiplat. Yes I understand the platform holders make their games exclusive, but it does not make much sense for 3rd-parties.

Did they have to announce it just as we learned Yooka Laylee had a million players? Really stole their thunder.

Isn't it still tracking below other games in estimated revenue ?
Would love to know if anyone has an explanation for it.
Also, did it officially become the most played game worldwide ?

Fornite is swimming in money.
Back in "May 2018" it was makeing 318m $ (for 1 month) (before it was on android).

Its extremly profitable, so I dont see the issue.

Considering most paying fortnite players take the season pass once every season and that season 4 started on the first of may, this month alone might be a big part of their quarterly earnings.

Fortnite's micro-transactions are entirely cosmetic so I fail to see the problem.

It's that mentality that allows for MT's in the first place.

Also the currency is paid for in real money.

I see no problem if a F2P game generate revenue selling skins. The top 5 PC games in revenue today are F2P games that sell cosmetic items for profit: Legue of Legends, Dungeon Figther Online, Fantasy Westward Journey Online 2, Fortnite and Crossfire.

I'm glad previous generations have doomed our species to oblivion. It keeps on truckin'. #supercereal
