Forums - Microsoft Discussion - UPDATED: Xbox to offer All Access

If the next Xbox gets this kind of deal off the bat I’ll sign up day one.

I was a little bit off, I didn't know about Xbox game pass at the time so instead subbed it as being 5 years of Live.

Still though, this should be massively successful for them and imo is how the X should have launched to try to win back gamers.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Expected. They have to do something to try and catch the competition. Like everything else so far can't see it working

Incredible logic you have. This is clearly MS's plan to crush Sony and Nintendo...

These services aren't designed to be a game changer that moves many units. Its more about getting existing users interested in subscription services, a big source of revenue these days.

Oh right I too must have forgotten, - MS is in the business for having the tally for highest console units sold and revenue on the other hand is just purely incidental ;)

Xbox 360 and Xbox One

Just realised I completely screwed up when I said this was a good price and did 22x12 for $264, not 22x24.

This actually is a terrible price, $528 for an XBO S with 2 Years of Gold and 2 Years Gamepass.

I think 360 got this during its lifetime

360 had something similar but by the time you paid it off, I think it cost way more than just buying a console. Some guys did the math back then. Plus you had to make a down payment of like $100.

That scheme wasn't available here though.
Neither is this one actually...

Definitely a pricing model I'll be interested in future. The upfront of buying a new console+ games+controls is pretty immense. I'll adopt the next gen of PS5, Switch 2 etc much sooner this way even if you end up paying slightly more in the long run. Cashflow is king

Will you own the console, or will it be a rental?
Anyways, I don't like the idea of paying piecemeal for the machine. Or anything for that matter. Well, buying a house or a car you kinda have to, but everything else I have always paid up front.
As for the games as a subscription service, the sensibility of that depends on how many games I usually end up buying in an average year. Will have to make some calculations. Having access to 100 games is of no value to me, if none of them are what I really want. And I know what I want, it's very cut and dried for me.
I'm a Sony man so at this point I'm just entertaining a hypothetical, but if this turns out to be a success for Microsoft, Sony is sure to follow suit eventually.

Another nail in the coffin of game retailers, especially Gamestop. If you are locked into a console for two years, you would be less inclined to trade it in.

Also since there will be no barrier to entry, Sony and Nintendo can easily come in and offer better prospects (games for example) and undercut Xbox at their own game.

Hmm not entirely. There will always be places to sell the hardware. If you think these deals are the nail in the coffin than you must really hate Steam and similar services.

Sony and Nintendo can easily counter this strategy, but that will require them to do the same which basing that off your first point will hurt retailers..

I honestly dont care for retailers, they are known to rip customers off and are also the reason we have expensive products.

Netflix hasn't stop stores from selling DvDs and Thats been a thing for years now.

More options never hurt anyone.

I'm too lazy to come up with specific parameters right now, but I'm willing to entertain offers for bets on the general premise that this venture will have, at best, a negligible impact on XBO console sales.
