Lose interest in the game due to lack of info (Switch).

It ll probably come out at some point, just you might have to wait a additional half year, or year's time.

The news that its not comeing to 3DS sucks though.

Because the 3DS models are all backwards compat, to play DS/DSi games, you could play:

DQ4,5,6,9 from the DS And DQ7,8,11 from the 3DS.

It woulda been cool to have DQ4 -> 11 playable on the 3DS.

Sadly thats not going to happend, unless some "fan translation" of the japanese 3DS game is in the works.

I'm thinking that maybe Nintendo will localize the 3DS version like the others.

I can understand SE, as the pc and ps4 versions have the potential to sell more than the 3DS version in the west.

This is going to get the Monster Hunter treatment, best selling DQ in the west forthcoming.

Launching in September, 1 year later after the intial release, against all the big AAA western dev ?

I can't see that happening.

I'm sure you didn't see Monster Hunter clearing 8 million either.

Its six weeks clear of any major 3rd party fall title and it'll be properly marketed before release (key on Square Enix's statement of westward expansion).  The west means more than just the US, in Japanese heavy France, this game will sell a lot.  The combination of that and a PC release means its another major Japanese 3rd franchise that has records set in its sights.

Great, I'll be getting it for ps4

With ps4/PC I think they will have nice numbers in the west. Trying to get something like a MHW story

No localisation of the 3ds version is really weird. As is still knowing absolutely nothing about it on the Switch.

Square-Enix is biased against Nintendo systems. If it weren't for Nintendo taking on localisation and publishing duties, virtually all of Square-Enix's 3DS and Switch games would have remained Japan-exclusive.

Square-Enix general approach to fan requests for their 3DS and Switch games is "Ask Nintendo." The lack of a 3DS release of Dragon Quest XI in the West doesn't come as a surprise. The Switch version being an uninteresting side project isn't shocking either. It's par for the course for this publisher.

It’s weird seeing SE Japan being such a great 3rd party for Nintendo but western SE being so fucking awful.

Well, it has to sell something like 1.8-2 million to be the best selling one in the west. I think its possible

I was always going to get the PS4 version, so this is purely good news as far as I'm concerned.

Can’t wait for the PS4 version. But very disappointed in no 3DS version as a Dragon Quest fan/collector. It was so cool and a nice throughback to the original style of the series.

In a statement, Square Enix told IGN: "Our aim with Dragon Quest XI and the Dragon Quest brand is to grow the audience in the West. From a business point of view, it made strategic sense to release the 3DS version in Japan in 2017. For the West in 2018, it made the most sense to focus on the PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) platforms."

As for the Switch version, things are slightly less clear. "We are also developing the Switch version for Europe and North America," reads Square Enix's statement, "but development is expected to take a long time from a technological standpoint as well, so we still have a long way to go until its release".

Growing DQ in the West is a smart strategy, because it has become a better franchise than Final Fantasy IMO.  Although I'm going to wait for the Switch version.  Right now I'm looking to get every multiplat game on Switch.  It's just a better format all around.

Feeling majorly burnt. I'm really only interested in the Switch version, so this news does less than nothing for me. SE is letting me down with Switch support. "Octopath" looks great, but the whole selling point of the Switch to me is console-tier games on the go.

I remember when that one poster said the 3DD version would be likelier to come to the west because Nintendo usually published the Dragon Quest games. Guess he was wrong.
