I LOVE ICELAND!

Around the Network

At this point in my life if I were to purchase it, and I can't as I don't own a Switch, I would do so with the intent purpose of understanding it. Understanding how Nintendo did it. Understanding what it symbolizes about the current trends within gaming, and understanding why I personally enjoy or don't enjoy it.

It just has a fascinatingly clever aura around it. Love to learn more about it!

So 60% of us want to buy cardboard children's toys and then play with them in our houses, rooms or apartments? Am I reading this right?

I don't think I belong here anymore.

Or 60% of us have children ?

Or I just don't give a fuck if someone thinks I'm too old to have fun with these games. I figured that gamers of all people would realize that this elitist "aren't you a little old for that" bullshit is shallow and meaningless, when many have been told something similar about nerdy hobbies since we were teens...

I'm going to build a robot backpack.  I am going to wear said robot backpack.  And I'm going to pretend I am a robot.  And you can bet your ass that when I crouch to turn into a car I'm going to make vroom vroom noises.  Anyone who doesn't like it can kiss my giant robot ass.

The Labo isn't a cardboard box. It's a video game that uses cardboard to create different gameplay options. Why is it so hard for people to notice the difference?

Using the same mindset, you could say that people spend thousands of dollars on cars, that are just metal boxes. And that makes no sense at all.

I think that people do notice the difference. Unfortunately, the narrative that some on here are trying to push is that Nintendo fans are sheep and they will buy anything that has a Nintendo logo on it. With Labo, it becomes easier to push that narrative by ignoring the fact that this entire concept hinges on software and the Switch to bring it all together. By ignoring these key elements in order to push that narrative, they are attempting to make that Labo come across as Nintendo only selling you a piece of card board at a high price. This narrative of course falls apart when you realize that you can take any card board box and use the schematics for the parts to create your own unofficial Labos and they will do absolutely nothing because you need the software that is key for the interactive bits, a Switch to run the software on, and the Joy-Con's IR camera and motion sensors to provide the system and the software input and/or be as a means of moving the Labo creations. So while the aforementioned narrative might be amusing for a quick laugh, it is hardly accurate nor does it properly represent what this product is.

Ironically, the point of "they'd buy a cardboard box" is that companies can be lazy and put no effort or thought into a new product and fanboys will buy it.  But, with Nintendo Labo that's the furthest thing from the truth.  Whether you're into the idea or not, you cannot deny that a lot of thought clearly went into it.  It's really unlike any other product on the market.  I don't think anyone could have imagined that what are essentially two Wiimotes could be used to make a functional piano.

But yeah, der hur it's made of cardboard.

Why is everyone here acting like Labo will be the first time they’ve dressed up as a cardboard robot?

Isn't anything put on sale considered a 'cash grab'? Isn't that the point of business, to make money? This is just Nintendo making a product to try to sell and make a profit. Also, not really sure how this results in people breaking their hardware and controllers, unless people are just really careless with their stuff. Also didn't know Labo released already as well, considering you claim that people are eating this up.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about breakage, but this is going to prove really fun for me and my daughter. I just need to get her a pair of Joycons of her own.
