SAN MATEO, Calif., Jan. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced robust sales for PlayStation®4 (PS4™) computer entertainment system and its software titles during this holiday season.

PS4 has sold through to consumers more than 5.9 million units*1 during the 2017 holiday season.

PS4 has now cumulatively sold through more than 73.6 million units*2 globally as of December 31, 2017. 

More than 55.9 million*3 PS4 games were sold during the 2017 holiday season in retail stores worldwide and through digital downloads on PlayStation®Store. This totals up to 645.0 million copies*4 cumulatively sold as of December 31, 2017.

Very impressive sales for the PS4 this holiday, as well as selling through more than 73.6 million units worldwide. Expecting some big numbers this year as well

If it's at 73.6 million as of December 31st, and VGC has it at 71.8 million as of Dec. 9th, then either sales should drop like a rock for the last 3 weeks of 2017 (very unlikely), or the PS4 is overtracked.

december numbers a little disappointed

It would be slightly over tracked, since they said it was at 70.6 Million as of December 3rd (Sony did). Unless it sold 1.2 Million just one week, and slowed down to half that following 3  weeks.

December wasnt great. I thought it would sell 3m

Indeed, this makes it more likely that 2018 will be the peak year.
