Forums - Website Topics - How do you feel about the current state of VGC? - A Survey

  1. August of 2007 primarily because I was interested in sales data at the time and the community seemed pretty cool.
  2. My interest has changed quite a bit as I matured and realized while sales data is interesting to look at it doesn't matter to the extent that I previously believed. Consoles and games can be fun even if they have only sold 10 million/100k respectively lifetime or what not.  Also, I realized while being part of an online community is interesting, I personally have found other uses of my time as I have gotten older. Gym/relationships/family/actually playing games as opposed to discussing them. I'll still read through some threads, but have less will to actually post in them.
  3. I'll check the site maybe once a month now. Looks at some sales data and view the hot topics.
  4. I honestly cannot give my thoughts on the current community. The community was great when I first joined, but I have not kept with who the new users are too much these past few years. Seems like the community is still going strong though from what I can tell?
  5. I'm all for more fixes/updates. Sounds good to me.
  6. This site has so much nostalgia for me, many good conversations and topics over the years. Soriku vs Leo-j post wars, the whole section 8 discovery, all those mafia games, ioi's drunk banning spree, and so on and so forth.

1) Joined in 2011 but lurked for a while before that. Solid initial community and joined whilst I was banned on gametrailers.

2) Interest has dwindled as my gaming interest has dwindled I think the community and mods have always been bias. Community is still an issue but the mods seem fine now that the notorious ones have retired, so to speak.

3) 5-7 times a week. General & xbox.

4) community seems fine, its been far far worse in the past, the previous mods did a piss poor job. Some of the main offenders were given perma bans far too late.

5) The site looks dated, but thats perfectly fine in terms of its forums. Perhaps the front page could be updated.

6) I doubt I visit this site enough for my opinion to count.

Now, this is mainly a thread of personal interest, rather than an official VGC survey. However, after having discussions with others I am wondering what the state of VGC is according to the community here, and thus I have a few questions that I'd like to ask:

  1. When did you join the site, and what were your reasons for joining?
  2. How has your interest in VGChartz evolved as your time here has passed?
  3. How often do you frequent/check VGC? Which sections of the site do you visit most frequently?
  4. How do you feel about the community here? Is it better/poorer than when you first joined?
  5. How do you feel about the current changes/fixes/updates being made on VGC?
  6. Fill in any other information/thoughts/feedback/reception here
Thanks to all who post!! I'm curious to see what the results will be.

1. You can see on my profile, i decided to sign up one day because it was the only gaming site i kept vising, to see sales and the database for past games

2. I dont know its my only gaming forum, but sometimes i lose massive interest in vgc and gaming

3. Everyday. Usually I check the PS section , unfourtainly often times it isnt as active as it used to be, and the discussions arent interesting to me so i have to contribute my self. Its mostly about sales when it comes to PS4, you dont see people arguing much about PS series for example like on Nintendo. Like their wishes for certain games.

4. It is worse, the community was a lot bigger back then but many people were banned or arent posting anymore. I also dont like this tendency now of scapegoating other users, and constantly going on a personal level. Some people arent arguing about the subject of a post anymore but against user X or Y who wrote it.

5. Yeah the site got a lot better when it comes to technical aspects, even the sales colors were fixed, PS is blue, Nintendo Red how it should have been. But there are still issues like the broken Game data base for profiles etc.

Does anyone have a link to this?

1. 2013. I was lurking here for ages, but then came the day where I had something to say. Can't remember what it was.

2. Pretty much the same. I always come here when I should be working. It's a nice distraction for me, nothing more.

3. I come here pretty much daily, but only look at the front page and hot topics. I rarely, if ever, go into the forums on my own. Which is also the reason why I haven't seen this thread in the last 6 days. =P

4. I don't know, seems the same to me. Most of the time I don't see the user names anyway. As I said, I come here when I'm working and I have 2 browser windows open for work, one on each half on the screen. On vgchartz, when I scroll just right to read the comments, the avatars and user names and all that disappear. So yeah. I mean, I do know one or two lads from around here, but that's about it. I really don't care too much who I'm talking to, if you know what I mean.

5. No idea what changes have even been made. Oh no, wait, the change of colour in the graphs on the front page is pretty nice!

6. Use AdBlock for vgchartz. Seriously. Just do it.

Site needs a major overhaul. In the age of Smart phones this site feels like a flip phone (maybe early Smart phone at best). Website design has been making turns to focusing on ease of use and simplistic but stylishless. I think Reset era has a very nice site design. Another good one is Sonic Stadium forums.

1. 2007. Sales numbers and business talk

2. It has vaned. Though, my interest in visiting the site depends a lot of if there's anything interesting happening in the games world.

3. I visit here every now and then. Mostly check out the hot topics.

4. It was better when I joined.

5. Has there been updates, changes or fixes? Whoa!

6. Nah.

Maybe that design is good for mobile use, but I absolutely loathe that and GAFs design. I don't plan to nor will I ever browse a forum from my phone.

The "red" and "blue" themed sites we had years ago worked very well with mobile, it was the "black" site that broke the mobile. Prior to the current site, I used to visit here multiple times a day.

Haha, guys that was analogy. I'm saying if VGChartz was a phone it would be a flip phone not a smart phone. On that topic though, this site is a hot mess on mobile devices and backwards in that regards as well. New website trend is being modular.

VGC needs to step into the 2010's.
