Forums - Sony Discussion - Do you think PSVR may get the Virtual Boy or Vita treatment?

1. The PSVR has sold 1.8 million in 9 months compared to Virtual Boys 750k since the fucking 90's, lol

2. The PSVR is not done selling, once again since it came out 9 months ago, again lol

3. The bolded literally hurt my brain

How do you get that number. The number I can find is that Sony said it sold a million in June:

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2017/06/05/sony-psvr-sales-top-1-million-20-of-ps4-sales-since-november-are-a-pro/

As sales were above 900K in the first quarter 2017 the PSVR sold around 100K in the second quarter.

Sorry but Superdata, has been so off the ball with VR, that it isn't funny. Sony themselves have stated numbers that do not align with anything superdata has released.

Well, Sony says a million, so maybe, just maybe, Superdata is a bit off.

probably not 1.8 million but shawn layden revealed the numbers saying "over a million" a few months ago so obviously it isnt still just 1 million lol

No need to say sorry, you dont know the true numbers and neither do I, the over a million figure was revealed a few months ago and they were probably sold through to consumer figures, so the numbers at least in terms of shipped figures must be at 1.5 million or something like that by now

The stock issues have been over for a while, that is true. Though, those bundles aren't launch bundles. Sony still produces that bundle.

They may still be producing it, but it clearly says "Launch Bundle" on the box.

Some store listings still say "launch bundle" but the box itself just says "PlayStation VR bundle. I'm literally looking at one as I type this.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Honestly, I feel the same about sales. There is a group that is willing to shell out early for tech.. and I beleive that group has had their fun.

Those numbers are intense. Most people aren't going to drop $1200 (or even ~$900) on gaming in that light. That's evident in how the PS4 has done being the cheaper choice this generation (not to undercut the importance of the games, mind you).

Lastly, you said it was a shame that Sony didn't pack into the extra gear to cut that part out, but I can guarentee you they did it to keep the systems on par with one another. When discussing the Pro, Sony made sure to iterate a million times that the Pro wasn't going to have exclusive things that the normal PS4 couldn't do (outside of a bump in visuals). Inconvenient in this light, but easier for marketing I think.

I'm just hoping VR has some legs to stand on in this go which should see the tech slim down in bulk and price in the future with new generations.

It will sell a it more as the price gets reduced, and perhaps GT Sport, Skyrim and Doom might convince some more people to give it a try. I assume those will have at least some marketing as the marketing for psvr in general has gone pretty quiet.

The breakout box is unfortunate. At least the pro has an extra usb port on the back yet they should have simply added an extra hdmi port as well. All the breakout box does is generate the social screen from the vr feed and some 3D positional audio. The pro could have handled that with the extra power. Heck I don't use either of those anyway, always use my surround setup and turn my tv off. I guess you would still need a splitter for the usb to send the tracking info back, dunno if you can do that through hdmi, although perhaps you can use arc for that.

Yet then they would have to sell it seperate for use with the base ps4, another extra next to the camera and move controllers. You're right that would have been a bad idea, the market is too small atm to split it up further. Next gen I assume they'll pack all the neccesary stuff in the ps5 for VR to work without any extras. Hopefully with inside out tracking and new motion controllers that don't need external sensors.

I don't doubt that.  I'm just saying, as of a couple of weeks ago, there was a Launch Bundle available at Target in Springfield, VA.  The box said Launch Bundle on it, plain as day.  If I can remember, I'll check it out next time I'm there and take a picture if there are still some available.

ironically enough, nintendo is in the best position to sell VR.
they have tonnes of expirience in the genre with the 3ds and virtual boy.
thier current system has a EMBEDDED SCREEN, and is not that heavy, and thier default countrolers can be cheaper move controlers.
they just need to make a switch pro with a 1440p display at 600~700$ or something(with possible 4K docked) while realesing a 300$ switch SP.
as the PSVR is currently I don't see it selling.
