I expected a bit more for Splatoon 2 from the YSO prediction, but good sales nontheless.

And almost 100k Switch, just missed that bar.

Pleasantly surprised by the sales of Layton and Fate/Extella, I feared the latter would bomb in Japan on the Switch

You expected a bit more. Splatoon 2 first week is better than lifetime sales of Zelda BOTW on Switch, MARIO Kart 8 deluxe, and ARMS in Japan. It’s the best selling Switch game in Japan. What were you expecting?

YSO predicted 850k. While I was sure it wouldn't reach that number I thought about 750k would have been possible

Why did people expect as much as they did anyway? We only had a single other game to compare its first week sales to within the series, which was pretty modest, and Switch stock is still low in Japan. Were preorders that good?

When you realize this is NOT INCLUDING DIGITAL and the fact that it seemed like digital vs phisical for this game seemed like 50:50 choice in the community...

Famitsu includes download cards and has it at 671k.

But I doubt download cards even make 10% of the total download sales since the advantage of download is you can do it directly at hone while for download card you would have to go to the store which defeats the purpose entirely except empty spla2oon collection boxes. So I can imagine a scenario of splatoon 2 above 900k with downloads or even 1mil. If so that would be insane since only 1.2mil switches right now sold over there. But I imagine in one month everyone in Japan will have spla2oon

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

Switch is becoming the juggernaut of this generation in Japan now. Not sure when it will slow at this point.

Honestly COMG final points ratio for Splatoon 2 was bad. But COMG weekly ratio was good,

It was 941pts preorder which suggest closer to 941k. While the weekly had it at just over 1k which then suggests 500k. So essentially Splatoon 2 was a wildcard and hard to predict, especially after the last game's performance. 648k isn't bad FW, and it should leg it out later like the last game.

Ahh, I see now. No wonder some people had their expectations too high.

These numbers are still fantastic, and as you said it'll leg out for a long time I think. Already the best selling Switch game in Japan, so kinda hard to complain. Lack of Switch stock is also probably holding it back somewhat.

Well, they did hold back 100k+ HW which is better than I thought they would get. I imagine they're diverting more stock from EU to JP as they should.

You think Splatoon 2 had a 30% digital ratio?...

This feels a lot like during the n64, snes, and nes era when there were just certain games that everyone just had to have, and if you didn't have them and the system they came on then you just weren't in the now. If played well without negative surprises, Switch is going to be massive and bring on a cultural shift in gaming.

As Switch is a mobile console buying digitally increases the comfort switching between games while playing on the go.

If that were the case, you'd expect the 3DS to have pretty high digital ratios as well, but that simply hasn't been the case. I can see the rationale behind your explanation, but the data doesn't back it up.

Yes, I only answered the question about the advantage. I know that digital ratio is bad. Seems other reasons outweigh this.
